We were there for a family dinner and the food was amazing . The best vegetarian I have had especially the baigan achari and the thali raj bog was a huge and full of different kinds of flavours. The service was quite fast even though it was a Saturday and the restaurant was full the starter and drinks were served within 5 mins and the main course came 15 mins after. The desert menu is worth giving a shot as well.
I have visited this place for both lunch and dinner. I have ordered Thali for luch, which is a traitinal Indian full course platter cosnists of rice, roti, fries, curries, sweets. I really enjoyed each and every intem in this thali. I must admit that the chef has fine sense of balance for using combination of Indian spicies. For dinner, I tried naan and panner which was also very good. The service boyes and girls are prompt and helpful.
Amazing food.
Rajadhani Thali is a must try.
A bit costly compared to prices in London.
Good ambience. Generally busy.
Friendly staff. Service was a bit slow but probably because it was very busy.
I can only speak about the weekend buffet because I am yet to try the a la carte menu. The food is very delightful and service is good. However, when the food ran out management took its time to replace the food, apart from that great experience.
Pleasant atmosphere, the dishes are good but the ones I’ve had have suffered from being a bit similar in texture. Maybe I’ve just chosen badly, but it seems that a wider range would be good.
I wish it would allow me to give more than 5 stars, I would give 100 out of 100 to this Restaurant. If you are in Edinburgh and looking for a vegetarian food - Kalpan is the Restaurant you should visit to. After a long day, we were looking an Indian Restaurant in Edinburgh and we came across Kalpana online. Later we realised it was one of the best thing happened in Edinburgh with us. Amazing food, properly cooked, brilliant taste and genuine portion sizes. Highly recommend them!
After searching for vegetarian friendly restaurants in Edinburgh we settled on this restaurant as its menu is exclusively vegetarian and, as we found, they also serve delicious Indian food.
We couldn't settle on what to have so opted for the thaali options. Both the vegan and non vegan were as equally tasty and satisfying. None of the dishes I found I disliked totally, however there were ones I loved more than the others, in particular the yellow dhal which was a winner for me.
The staff were attentive and friendly and the place quickly filled up from when we arrived towards the start of their dinner service, adding to the atmosphere.
We arrived with empty stomachs and left with full ones as well as big smiles on our faces.
A must try if you're in Edinburgh or looking for a good Indian feed that will surely satisfy meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans alike !
Excellent food and above all vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Edinburg. Too good . Must try Kesar pista kulfi. Dahi poori. Kheer . Anarkali thali. Excellent service altogether
I managed to get the name of this place, when i was in Edinburgh and I immediately wanted to check this place.
So here is the review of the place.
Ambience :- The ambience was quite good and i was happy to see Indian faces after a long time. It looks like a great hangout place and it was thronged by many people. ( I think it can also be due to the weekend, but the place was lively)
Service:- The service was courteous , though i was waiting for ten mins to get a glass of water.
Food:- I had three dishes
1) Mughalai Briyani :- I was surprised by this. Normally, back in India Briyani used to be spicy. This wasn't. Though i was informed before ordering, i never thought it would taste diff. It was completely different taste and the aroma was too good to resist.
2) Masala Dosa :- Well it didn't match the taste of south indian dish. The Dosa by itself had a different taste altogether.
3) Mango Lassi:- My favourite . It matched my expectation and was looking colourful.
A feel good place, for those who wants South Indian Vegetarian dishes in Scotland
Location: Main Road/street and within 5 mins walkin distance from Edinburgh Waverly station, so 10 out of 10Ambience: Lovely indian style decoration inside and good crowd. Staff is also friendly and easy going. Would feel like home. 10 out of 10Food: Each and every item was so delicious. Cooked perfectly. Food was so tasty, less masala. Could not even see/smell the oil in food. 10 out 10.Lunch: They serve buffet almost daily 12 to 2/2:30 pm @ £8.50. We had lunch buffet twice which included 2-3 salads, butter naans, dosa(best dosa I ever had) or pakora(one item), coconut and sweet chatni, sambhar, Rice, mix beans vegetable, peas mushroom veg, dal makhani/black dal, rice kheer(this was £1 per bowl extra paid but worth the taste). They take only cash for lunch I think. Check first.Dinner: Ordered hara bhara kabab, cooked perfectly. Ordered matar paneer(enough for 2) and naan in main course. Matar paneer was bit pricy £9 around. Otherwise food very tasty and would love to try again. 8 out of 10.Overall: Highly recommendable for Indian veg food. Best indian vegetarian restaurant in Edinburgh and whole UK I found so far :)
The place is lovely with very friendly owner and servers. They have a variety of starters. The main course was also wonderful. My personal favourite has to be the dessert which had a tinge of saffron in it, making it even more tasty. A must try for all the foodies.
This is literally the first place that I went to for lunch on Day 1 of my Scotland trip (over the Easter Weekend in Apr-22).. after getting off at Edinburgh Waverley Station. And boy, I tell you it was absolutely worth it! I was travelling with my Mum and Sis, who were visiting from India, and I quickly zeroed down on Kalpna based on online reviews - since we were craving Indian Vegetarian food. And what a BRILLIANT decision!! The restaurant was almost closing at 2 pm, but agreed to take my full order in one-go - as the kitchen was closing. Food was DELICIOUS, and the Manager / Caretaker was friendly and had a long chat with us. However, the biggest BUMMER (which is why I’ve deducted 1 Star!) was that they DIDN’T ACCEPT CARDS. I knew they had a card machine, but were reluctant to entertain any requests. So after a heavy meal, I had to walk around in the sun and search for an ATM to settle my Lunch Bill. Absolutely ridiculous in this day and age, and especially in the UK - where everything is tap-and-pay. I come from India and there are always multiple options for payment in all restaurants. Food is LIP SMACKING, but go with CASH ON HAND!
Literally the best restaurant in Edinburgh. Visited this place on my birthday and the owner specifically made a cake for me and a few special dishes. The taste is amazing and reminds me of home and the service is exceptional. My favourite restaurant in Edinburgh absolutely love it and a must visit!
Very nice Indian vegetarian restaurant, very clean, very kind staff, delicious food, next time i will surely try the thali 😀
Very nice and never thought I would say this for a vegetarian restaurant. Their thalis were just amazing and highly recommended. Also the customer service was very good and made my family welcome.
Absolutely beautiful food. I've been vegetarian for my whole life and this is the best vegetarian restaurant I have found. I come here a lot with my partner and he loves it too, despite being an avid carnivore! The staff are so kind and accomodating, one of the waitresses in particular is so attentive and lovely. We love it here, and highly recommend you pay a visit.
We went for lunch buffet. Food was quite good and the staff were super friendly. They even gave us a complimentary tasty chai. Pleasing vibes and unique ambience. Strongly recommend.
Just had a delightful meal at this Indian spot in Edinburgh. The food was genuinely reminiscent of my travels to India — flavorful, aromatic, and perfectly spiced.
The staff were attentive without being overbearing, ensuring we had everything we needed. If you're in town and craving some quality Indian fare, this place is a must-try!
Wonderful authentic Indian taste, took Thali Raj Bhog and Archana Thali, gobi(had more oil though) and masala Dosa. All items were really very good and after not having Indian food for sometime we really loved eating here. The staff was also very good and checking if we liked the food. Staff even made us try their new dish(soya curry) they would like adding to their menu and it was lovely.
Would definitely recommend for those looking for Indian food in Edinburgh.
Note- Raj Bhog thali had only 2 curries more than Archana Thali and the price is on a higher side than usual for Indian food and they take CASH only.
An absolute gem! This Indian restaurant’s lively ambiance creates an authentic experience. The flavors take you on a journey through India, with attentive staff and impressive presentation. A must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable dining adventure!
