Must Try: All Bar One Nachos

We visited this restaurant on a Monday night hence it was relatively quiet. All Bar One has a lovely and cosy dining area.

We were famished hence we decided to go with two starters and try the classic All Bar One Nachos and the Garlic Flat Bread with Cheese. By far one of the best nachos I have tried. The nachos was not too crispy and had a thin layer of cheese already on it making it perfectly soft. The sour cream, salsa, guacamole and cheese individually and combined was delicious.

For the main course we tried the BBQ Pulled Pork and the Chicken Breast served with Gravy and Rice. Both dishes were absolutely divine. The pork was well cooked and melted in the mouth with the BBQ sauce. The gravy had the right amount of flavor and went well with the fried chicken and rice.

For drinks we decided to try the mango and peach bellini which was nice however their mango daiquiri was too strong which overpowered the flavour of the drink.

The service was fair and the prices are good. they have various offers for meals for two which makes it apt for date nights or just dining for two. Overall a nice restaurant to visit.

Perfect for post-work drinks/food, a menu to suit all tastes (food is nothing special but decent prices). It's LOUD but a nice atmosphere. Book if you are planning to eat, otherwise there are plenty bar stool tables to sit at. Service was fast and friendly. Will no doubt be back- made for a fun night out.

I have been here a few times but the last time I visited back in December throughout the Christmas/New Year period I was really disappointed. I went with a few friends to catch up and we booked a table in advance. When we got there the place was really busy and we had to wait quite a while before being seated at the pre-booked table which was right beside till service of the staff. After being crammed into there we were finally asked what we wanted to drink and eat, unfortunately because the place was very busy it this did take an awful long time.

After finally ordering food and collecting drinks which took much longer than necessary as we could see them waiting on the bar when our food finally arrived we were starving. I cannot fault the prawn starter than I had. Although my friend did have the same and hers was slightly cold. For the main course I ordered a classic burger with extra halloumi cheese, unfortunately this also came a little cold and the cheese wasn't grilled as expected.

Overall I think this was just down to how busy they were on the night, however it has impacted on my view of the restaurant and would much rather choose somewhere else over All Bar One.

Hot from our Valentine’s Night In suggestions, Blythe and I went along to All Bar One to try a different Valentine’s Night out – one making cocktails.

At All Bar One until the 15th February, you can sit at the cocktail mixing experience table from 5pm to try your hand at cocktail making and pick up a copy of A Pocket Guide to Flirting. Not just for Valentine’s day you can book in for the full masterclass at any time (minimum numbers apply)

Not simply for the unattached and adventurous, flirting is a skill everyone can master.

We’d suggest that the same is true for making cocktails. I’ll hand you over to Blythe to tell you about our evening.

Blythe

It’s always lovely to catch up with Danielle, so when she suggested coming along to join a cocktail masterclass at All Bar One, I was more than happy to say yes.

Their busy and vibrant George Street Branch was our location. Bar manager Chris greeted us on arrival, then introduced us to our cocktail shaker for the evening, Scott.

Taking a seat at the end of their long bar, Scott took us through our options for the evening, which were to sample two of the three cocktails from their regular masterclass menu.

We started with a Disaronno sour, which Scott stepped us through with calm clarity, then turned over the measures and mixers to me, so I could have a go. I’m a great fan of sours, with a North Berwick gin white lady a particular favourite, so I was keen to see whether I could put together one that hit the spot.

The major sensation when shaking the drink was how very cold the shaker got, but I have massively wimpish tolerance for hot and cold. I did a perfectly passable job producing a completely drinkable cocktail that was not bad at all.

Danielle took charge of the Gin Berry Cobbler, once Scott had shown us the steps. This was another rather good confection, bringing together a nicely balanced Rothschild Viognier with berries, gin, sugar syrup and lime juice.

Throughout, Scott kept the chat ticking along very nicely and the atmosphere of the place matched the very pleasantly pervading sense of fun. After making cocktails, we supped on 5 tasty sharing plates.

It was a very enjoyable evening, so thanks to Scott and Chris, as well as the folks at Roche communications for the invitation.

Danielle

I was amazed to see how one cup is jammed into another to make a shaker. It made absolute sense to shake over one shoulder in case it comes undone. My cocktail needed shaking for longer to crush the fruit – great exercise.

Did we learn to flirt? Perhaps not, but we suggest All Bar One is a great place to do so!

The cocktail masterclass is £20 per person (minimum numbers apply). The Pocket Guide to Flirting was created by social and cultural anthropologist Jean Smith. You can get your free copy at any All Bar One until 15 February 2015.

I’ve been here three times now and do indeed love it! One of my favourite places in Edinburgh for cocktails and dinner. The food is wonderful! The most recent time I visited though we sat in the front room, close to the door, and the service wasn’t as great, maybe because we were around the corner and quite out of sight. All the staff were lovely though!

Wonderful food and drinks! Great service too. We tried a little of everything and enjoyed it ALL! Started with some small plates (tapas style) hummus, crispy mushrooms and calamari, all were incredibly delicious and fresh! For the meal my husband had a steak and chips, I had the nutritional bowl with veggies and quinoa, YUM! The vibe is fun and casual. There were brides-to-be celebrating and people of all ages enjoying the atmosphere. We are in the city for one night and this restaurant was so close to our hotel (The George), I’m really glad we stumbled upon it!

A great place for lunch! It’s been a while since we have been in All Bar One but we’re glad we returned. We didn’t want much so both had a Chargrilled Chicken, bacon & Focaccia sandwich with fries along with a glass of red wine. Well it was brilliant, we were stuffed and even left some fries, all for £9.95 each ! We will definitely be back to try other items on the sandwich & drink lunch deal.

I put a review on trip advisor. Service was excellent from Rob and Leon. Food was great however chicken a chorizo skewers , chicken was a bit chewy and not the best tasting but edible. Paella only found 1 bit squid but overall food was really good and drinks were really enjoyable too. Would definitely recommend. Thanks.

T’was much a delightful experience! Me and my wife had returned from our mountainous expedition in Mongolia, and felt the need to divulge into a meal. Our dear friend, Veronica had recommended this place to us so we decided why not? We were greeted with a smile, sat down at a table, had a refreshing glass of wine and our meals were served and were absolutely delicious. Me and my wife will definitely return after our journey from the Amazon.

Had a lovely Tuesday tapas evening with friends. The service was good and our server Will was very attentive and cheery. There was a slight delay in service due to a problem with order printouts but we were given complimentary olives to nibble on. We will be back.
