Chips was amazing and soft and fluffy. I hate hard chips. Fish batter was very crispy but not the best king of crispy and there was more batter then fish lets just say that but taste wise amazing. Just wish there was less batter more fish. Curry sauce was very nice. They were very busy and they made it fresh but obviously that take time but other then time it was great.

The food is amazing - the fish is fresh and tender, the batter is crispy and delicious. Mushy peas are superb as well as the sausages. The owners are so friendly and food is cooked on the spot so it’s hot! Service is pretty fast so there’s not much of a wait although you might see long queues outside the shop - that’s because it does only takeaways and it’s GOOD! Definitely worth a try and I’m coming back again for sure.

Recommend by a friend from work. Food is cook to order which means it's fresher! I don't mind waiting at all for my food as always friendly and polite and even have time to talk to you while you wait. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Ely now! Happy to sit by the river and enjoy a nice fresh fish and chips!! 10/10

Genuinely, the best fish and chips I've had in the country. I lived in Cambridge 2007-9 and used to day-trip to Ely. We discovered Alan's by chance and it soon became a regular Saturday afternoon treat. The chips are light and fluffy with real flavour. The fish is creamy and steamed beautifully inside perfect batter. And always cooked fresh. I've travelled the length and breadth of Britain and can honestly say these were the best fish and chips I'd found anywhere. That was 16 years ago. We went back today for the first time, and I'm pleased to say they're still as good as ever! These guys need to enter national awards.
