Celebrated a birthday here, great choice of food, friendly helpful staff, would recommend this venue to anyone. Thank you Carlos, you and your staff did a great job.
Love this place Carlos is a real gentleman, food great
Having taken the 'Hour Glass' pub off my list recently because of the very bad staff attitude, I was glad to find 'The Port Royal' Pub and Restaurant just a bit further along the river.
Food = excellent value for money
Staff are welcoming
Price = I could go once a week during the week to keep myself bouyant.
Setting= Romantic/Nautical/Easily walkable from the Quay (Parking limited)
Buses= Just off Topsham Road (K, R, S & T from City Centre to St Leonard's Church).
Big Big Helpings of yummy grub.
Ideal for the University of Exeter Students with aquatic activites at hand.
I think it's worth going regularly for locals and well worth a visit if you are a working tourist from Truro like myself.
July 2010
Re-visited Port Royal recently and they were doing well because of the sunshine and people out walking.
The food is passable still, but they barely cope when it is busy.
Let's hope they can improve their customer service a little?
Away from the rest of the quay and riverside pubs, it is sometimes overlooked and so if the quay is busy, you might find a spot at the bar during the summer months.
The owners are very friendly and offer a warm welcome. There are two sides to the pub (and four areas). There is the pool table and bar side, the bar side, eating area and the patio next to the river. the food is very nice and the bar stocks a wide range of drinks.
Dogs are welcome in all but the official eating area but you can eat anywhere in the pub.
Avoid the crowds and explore further up the river (away from the quay) and you will be rewarded.
I like this pub. It has a good friendly atmosphere. The food is pretty good and it has capitalized on the boating theme with boat shaped seats in some areas.
quiz night on a thursday is good fun and it is a great pub in summer to sit outside by the river
Our daughter's wedding was held in the function room - so spacious & airy, leading out to the patio area beside the river.
Food was incredible - you could so tell it was all home home cooked - simply delicious!
All the staff were so friendly & helpful - both on the day & leading up to it.
Simply cannot recommend this venue enough! Thankyou for making our day even more special!
A chilled out sunny afternoon and early evening in Exeter and we found ourselves strolling along the Exe. Walked past this pub many times. This time we went in! Nice welcome. Nice cask beers, good choice of snacks. Perfect sat outside watching the river and people watching. Very spacious but a bit stark. The location is everything...
We came here on Sunday afternoon for a late lunch after walking the dog. Our group ordered quinoa and beetroot burgers, beef burgers and fish & chips, and all of it was excellent! The triple cooked chips with the fish & chips were some of the nicest chips I’ve ever had. Great service and delicious food, and dog friendly too, really lovely visit, thank you!
Great pub. Excellent choice of ales. Very friendly staff.
A delightful experience. Covid aware and rules adhered to. Felt very safe. Very friendly atmosphere and we were well looked after. Would recommend this pub without hesitation. Food and service outstanding. The pub is situated in an idyllic setting looking out over the Exeter Quay. Friendly yet professional staff.
We loved stopping here on our walk . The staff were friendly and helpful. The service was good despite them being one man down. Definitely will be returning.
Love this place, it is ideal for us with the dog and also when friends come and fancy a Quay side walk, it is in the perfect location. We have been a few times and have been warmly greeted each time. I don't want to recommend everyone to visit or we will never get a place there but honestly it is lovely. Thank you to all the wonderful staff.
Nice pub in good south west facing location for sun trap.
Lovely spot for a pub, with a river view & great food. Enjoy that it is a local feel to it.
Big shout out to Dan, Mark and Carol. They recently changed their prices and accidently over charged us but we didn't noticed then 5 mins later Mark came to our table with the correct change. This shows they are 9f good character and morals. The pub it self was beautiful with great views will definitely be going again
