The Chef reccomendJust a 10 minute taxi from Halifax my wife and I had booked Denman’s for a Saturday evening while we were on a weekend escape. The menu is changed daily and on blackboards. Service was excellent. I had lobster raviolini to start and my wife had goats cheese fritter: both absolutely delicious. I went for the fillet steak and she had the venison. Both cooked to perfection! If you like your restaurants high quality but unpretentious you will like it here!!
We came with our 5yr old for dinner having made the trip to visit Eureka near by. This little gem of a place packed a big punch when it comes to the quality of their food and apporach to table service. The selection of wine was complimentary to their 'on the day' menu. I opted for rack of lamb whilst my husband went for the venison and my little one enjoyed a juicy sirloin steak. Wow! all our meals were very well presented, cooked to perfection and the seasonal vegetables were on point - fresh and cooked the way we liked it. Honestly, could not fault it. The waitresses were attentive yet not imposing, we like that they communicate with each other so that the same tables aren't 'checked' more than once which can be irritating from my experience, so again, well done! The whole experience was excellent. We've all agreed that it's worth the drive to return for dinner on a regular basis - given my husband's high expectations when dinning, believe it when I say that's saying something! Finally, pricing - no more than a chain restaurant and very reasonable. You are paying for cosy atmosphere with great service and awesome food thought. Worth it? 100%.
Well we went to Denman's, yesterday again 😁, my husband booked it for Valentines evening so i was delighted and once again top food, (Chris is a brill chef) customer service Debbie and Jess are so lovely and friendly really make you feel good and relaxed, I really can't fault this little gem on our door step, it's really is the full package. Very reasonable prices as well. On our previous visit we brought a couple of friends with us whom we'd told about Denmans and they also really enjoyed the place. One of the unique things about this restaurant is the menu. There are no table menus, there is a large blackboard on the wall with the menu of the day on so every time we go it a totally different menu which is great so you never no what your going to be ordering when you get there. That can one of the downfall when you find a good restaurant the menu never changes, they may have a specials board but basically it's the same thing week in week out, and because of that your never sure if it's pre-frozen or how long it's been there. But not here it's about what's in season and such a good variety even though it's not a vast menu something for all tastes in my opinion. An once again we had the 3 courses just can't say no haha. So will we return. - too right we Will we're already booked In taking 2 more friends in a couple of weeks 😁. See you soon Debbie & Jess 😁🍷 xx
We've been looking for a really good restaurant since the owners of our favourite restaurant retired last year. I think we've finally found our new favourite restaurant in Denman's. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We felt like we'd been pampered. The restaurant is small, but intimate and nicely fitted out. There was a relaxing atmosphere, with just the right amount of time given between courses. We were not rushed, and the staff were friendly but not intrusive. This is a restaurant that I can definitely recommend.
This is our local restaurant and as always the service and food is impeccable. We visited for my wife's' birthday on the 8th February and the food was delicious. My wife had venison which was cooked to perfection and I had fillet steak which was the best I had tasted for a long time and that was also cooked to perfection. We both had starters and therefore no room for a dessert unfortunately.
Visited here again for valentine's day, and I must say it's become my favourite place to eat. Staff are really welcoming, food it out of this world and the whole ambiance of the place is just amazing. Already can't wait to visit again. Keep up the good work you's are doing a fantastic job😀
This little gem has escaped my notice even though I probably drove past it a couple of times a week. Number one restaurant on TripAdvisor meant I needed to see what all the fuss was about. The restaurant is housed in a terrace house and although it’s quite small it’s not crammed with tables so you don’t feel claustrophobic. On arrival we were greeted with a very friendly smile and welcome and from there on the service from all staff was spot on. We had a drink in the bar area to begin with. I tried their own Denman’s lite and it was a lovely little lager. The bar area is quite small but perfectly in ratio to the rest of the restaurant so I didn’t feel cramped. After a short while we were invited down to our table. They don’t produce table menus as they change their menu regularly and consider producing a table menu as not a viable option, so you read off a blackboard. I knew this as I’d read a negative review regarding it but it’s really not an issue at all. They have a blackboard up and down stair and the writing is large and clear. The wife went for the Pheasant and I went for the Masala Cod after I had a starter of Chilli and Garlic Tiger Prawns. All means we’re impeccable and the flavours worked perfectly. I’m no expert on these things but we really enjoyed our meal. My only issue was the chef was at the far end of the kitchen so I couldn’t really offer my complements in person when I left. Never mind ;-) We were served promptly, drinks and food came promptly, the bill came promptly when we requested it and we paid promptly. We didn’t feel rushed but equally we wasn’t waiting either. They even tried to open the outside door for us once we’d left but we are mere commoners so we were already halfway though the door before we realised! I usually try to give the positives and negatives on a review but I can’t really fault this place at all. I didn’t use the toilet but the wife didn’t comeback complaining so I can only assume everything was good on that front too. Price wise, we paid about £75 and I had 3 courses, the wife one, two large wines and two beers. For the service and quality of food I was happy to pay that. We were both hungry on arrival and adequately full on departure so it’s a thins up from me and the wife. As Arnie once said, “I’ll be back”
As soon as you entered the restaurant, you received a warm welcome.All the people who served us,were professional in their work, chatty and polite.The food you couldn't fault- another level to your standard eating place. We had the Broccoli & Stilton soup, very tasty, followed by Sea Bass for myself and wife had the Liver-it was all spot on.We just had enough room to share a sticky toffee pudding which finished off an enjoyable evening.Its a place for a special occasion. If you haven't yet been to Denman's it definitely worth a visit.
I’m really not sure why we have never been here before, we didn’t know it existed until last week. Anyway, we decided to try the Sunday menu. The service was impeccable, the lady who served us was polite and professional. The food was beautiful, and cooked to perfection. Both starters were great, I had the deep fried brie, my husband had tiger prawns in chilli (not on the actual Sunday menu but we paid extra). For main I had the pink roast beef, my husband had the slow cooked version, both were superb. Our only criticism was the accompaniments. The beef came with roast and mashed potatoes and the vegetables came in a little bowl to share but was predominantly new potatoes. We really didn’t want three types of potatoes. The veg selection was poor, one piece of carrot, one piece of asparagus (between two of us), some broccoli and swede and a few shavings of leek. We really would have preferred more veg and less potato. We both had treacle sponge and custard for dessert, again lovely. We will definitely visit again but will try the main menu.
We were looking for somewhwere different to go for a meal on our day off..... googled "restaurants near me" scrolled through the good, the bad, the ugly, the never ever go there, the "been there" until.... DENAMS appeared. What's this I exclaimed to Georgie aka Mrs Kirby, a restaurant that looks right up our street and we haven't been....WHY!! Denams is unashamedly modest in attitude yet fantastic in every way in a gently understated yet HONEST way, it is somewhere that does what it says on the tin. A fabulous nod to traditional bistro cooking and style of service, it being small, bijou and most importantly family run We will certainly not be strangers and as Mrs Kirby stated "we shouldn't tell too many people about this place" Guess that's that blown out of the water then!! Ah well, credit where it's due, keep up the good work!!
Amazing restaurant, wine was excellent and food some of the best I've had. I love that you pick from a blackboard based on ingredients bought in that week. I imagine the menu changes a lot which keeps the chef on their toes. Only thing I wanted was more vegetarian options. There were 2 starters and no mains, luckily I decided to eat meat that day anyway!
Our first visit to Denman's, and it didn't disappoint. There was plenty of delicious food to choose from on the blackboard. Nice friendly atmosphere with excellent service. We will definitely go back.
Had a lovely evening at Denmans. Great food and lovely staff. Enjoyed each course. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely book again.
The food was amazing, although a little pricey. The staff were brilliant too. Perfect place for a special occasion. Will definitely be returning.
We had a brilliant meal with friends, the food was cooked to perfection, lots of choice, and fab service. Great wine selection and the puddings were delicious. The restaurant itself is lovely and has a really homely feel to it. Thanks Denman's, our new favourite.
Recently moved to the area and delighted to have such a great restaurant on our doorstep, service , decor and most important of all, the food, were of a very high standard and has put Denman’s well and truly on our list of places to consider when dining out for a special occasion.
I visited the restaurant for the first time this evening after hearing a wave of positive rumours and rightly so, the food was top notch and wouldn’t be out of place in a thriving city centre.. We are lucky to have this in our little village of Shelf! 5 ⭐️ all round.. food, service, atmosphere & decor. Cracked it 👏🏼
Havin been to denmans before and taken friends who now rate it as one of their favourites We went Fri had Lovley food starter goats cheese and beetroot.... Moorish Popadom filled with chicken.... Delicious Mains fillet steak and lamb both cooked to perfection No room for dessert Wine was nice and good price Staff very polite and knowledgeable about menu Go you won't be disappointed Thanks to all staff S
Our first time at Denman's. Despite a modern decor this restaurant still manages to create a cosy & intimate ambience. Very good & friendly service.Food was excellent although a little pricey. However like they say "you get what you pay for" which is exactly true in this case. Would strongly recommend.
