what a lovely place to visit, staff very nice & friendly we had a lovely lunch in the café as well very enjoyable, would recommend any bookworm to pay a visit.
What a great place! Well organised and welcoming. We got a basket full from the stacks and I got a classic from the archive which was easy to search for on the computer in the café. The food and drinks were all tasty, fresh and good value and the café itself was cosy and comfortable. Well worth a visit.
Love this place so much!! I can't really fault it. Its got a huge range of genres so if you like reading you'll love it here. Its so affordable too. The vintage room is out of this world. It's worth the visit just for that. The books in there can get pricey but if you're after some old first editions then that's the price you pay.
There is a nice kids corner here with lots of children's books of all age ranges.
They also have a cafe here which I haven't had anything in.
A lovely place to loose yourself in books. Enjoy the Darwin room filled with beautiful old books making you feel like your in a Victorian library! Then enjoy a delicious coffee and cake in the vegan cafe. Then what to do next? Books, records or rugs? So many choices!
So here we are back at the bookbarn, more pics, today's quest? Cake or books first? Then where to get comfortable!
When you first walk into the Bookbarn you don't initially see how big and extensive the place actually is. It was nice to be greeted by staff on the front desk aswell. For me the book choice wasn't that great as not all of the books are sorted into a particular order or category so some of the isles are more of a jumble sale of books. They do however have a look up system so if you are looking for something in specific you can see if they have it. With that said I think the café was really nice. Good coffee and good homemade cake.
Such an amazing spot. Tonnes of books, some really interesting unique ones too. The cafe is also lovely. There seems to be a good menu with lots of veggie options although I didn't order any food. The staff were also very friendly.
One of the biggest purveyors of second hand (and some new) books in the country.
Founded in 2000, it has grown exponentially over the years and now exports internationally.
Open (almost) every day of the year and welcomes customers to browse at leisure, shop online, relax at the cafe and for the price of a Waterstones paper back, go home with enough reading material to last them months.
From time to time, craft fairs are held within the premises- these are very popular and well attended.
Easy free of charge parking.
quirky place with many treasures. Books in all genres from all countries for all ages, could easily spend hours scouring the shelves, reasonably priced and a coffee shop in the middle!
Have always loved this place. Was a bit of a find a few years ago, and have been back several times. Always managed to grab a few bargains, attached. If you are in any way shape or form a book person, you need to visit!
I love this place.
(As an update from June 2020);
The refit is complete and there's been a dramatic change - including prices, which have doubled to £2 a book, £10 for 6. This is still cheap though and I don't blame them for the change, as the previous operating model wasn't working.
(An update for May 2020, my review below is now a year old (2019)):
The Bookbarn has been undergoing a dramatic refit, with the main book area being reduced in size and re-organised in order for greater emphasis to be placed on their international and web sales operations. The floor space is being tidied up, but it's loosing some of its jumble sale charm as a result. I'm not surprised as revenue has not been sufficient, so their MO (Modus Operandi) has to change in keeping with financial pressures. It's still a lovely place, chock full of bargains).
It's a massive metal shed filled with second hand books - all for £1. It's fantasmagorical!
I manage to read a book a month and now have over six years worth of reading courtesy of this place.
Don't expect it to be like a book shop. It's a shop in a barn selling books. The books are sourced from libraries refreshing stock and estate clearances, where someone has bequeathed a collection of books or a house clearance.
The books are categorised loosely into subject, e.g alphabetical by author for fiction and then subject matter for non-fiction, such as military, sailing, aviation, etc.
You'll need to be patient and the experience is more like a treasure hunt, which (personally) means I enjoy it more as it's brilliant when you come across a hidden gem.
Very nice shop and all books only £1 just a shame that the books like theory test ones etc are so old they would be ideal if they were recent perfect for book folding tho
Great selection of books, only £1each. Easy free parking. All one level. Nice café.
