A nice cafe that needs just a little background music to give it ambience. My breakfast came out and it was absolutely HUGE! I paid £12.95 for it and I do believe it was worth its price as it was just ginormous and tasted delicious. My partner's order was forgotten about but the staff were very quick to fix the issue once it had been raised and were kind enough to offer a complimentary drink for the wait. This, to me, is top service and made a great difference to our experience. Overall, very nice little cafe that I would visit again.

My daughter and I came in for breakfast before our 3 hour drive home. Really friendly staff - welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We both had full english- daughter doesn't like egg or mushrooms - no trouble though , she had extra bacon and hash brown. The chef even gave me a ln extra fried black pudding! All delicious, clean plates and full tummies all round!

The place was absolutely dead when we went but that's how I like it. The staff were super friendly and the service was super fast. Only had a cuppa tea, but it was nice enough.

I'm not saying this is the best full English in the UK but for my part I can't imagine how it could possibly be improved on. First off, as any fool knows, the most important thing about a breakfast is the quality of the components and this was absolutely superlative in every part. The bacon was perfect: tender, and tasted only of bacon rather than heaven knows what. Superb sausage with no unpleasant textural surprises in it. Fresh egg, perfectly cooked. I was a little unsure about those vine tomatoes at first, but the chef had seasoned them with a decent sprinkle of rock salt and that transformed them. Even the fried bread - such a difficult thing to get right - was ideal: crisp and tasty suggesting that fresh oil had been used. The café itself was clean, pleasant and quiet without being weird. All in all, this was a full English for the ages and a sublime experience which I savoured over coffee.

I visited with my elderly aunt as she grew up in Hay and used to play within the ruins of the castle. The cafe was busy but they managed to fit us in for tea and cake. The staff are lovely, the food nice, and the surroundings amazing. They have done a really good job. Highly recommended.

On a freezing Sunday in December it was a genuine pleasure to find a warm welcome and roaring fire at Hay Castle's Cafe. We ordered a pot of tea while we scanned the menu and a large teapot quickly appeared which was greatly appreciated as our extremities started to thaw. In a change from the traditional roast beef offering on the menu, I opted for the beetroot cured Salmon with Sardinian crispbread, slaw, pomegranate and pickled red onion. As it was rather a chilly day I added a side order of roasted vegetables. The combination was perfect! Delicious food, well presented and at a very reasonable price too. The staff were nothing but helpful, friendly and efficient, the setting light, clean and cosy. Advice - pre book to reserve your table as it's quite busy. 😊

Stopped in for breakfast on our last morning in the area. Very nice food but a little on the pricey side for a handful of pancakes. Staff were very nice and helpful.

Visited today with my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We both thoroughly enjoyed the hake and roast potatoes with pesto sauce. The staff were friendly and made our visit so relaxing. Congratulations to the chef. We will definitely visit again as Market day in Hay on Wye is a great joy
