This place is great for a stop off. The cake and drinks are fantastic. The views are amazing. I've not had the savoury food but it looks pretty good and nice portion sizes. The staff are always lovely at the café. An important point at the moment it is cash only! It always has been but this has not changed and I don't remember the last time I used cash now 😀 what with the global pandemic. Another thing is the parking area is slightly smaller now as there are some bays now taken up and reserved for the cottages, which is fair enough really. Finally there is an honesty box for parking(£4) if you aren't going to the café and are heading up to Shepherds Crag. The climbing community can be divided about parking fees. The deal here used to be you parked but had to stop off at the café when you had finished your climb. Too many people haven't done this over the years and the parking is on private land as far as I know... So I think £4 per car per day is fair enough. If you are visiting the crags and the car park is full then you probably want to park down the road at Kettlewell or up the Rd Bowderstone way... Don't park on the Borrowdale Rd. on any yellow lines as it's an obstruction and I've seen lots of cars get tickets. Alternatively get the bus or the launch of they are running. The crag is an excellent venue from VD to E4 if climbing is your thing. It can get busy though.

Absolutely love this hidden gem, could easily increase their prices and milk the tourists for every penny they have but it is still the same lovely place it was 30 years ago. Staff always seem cheerful even on a miserable wet lakes day. They also seem to have a ton of toys available for kids to mess about with as the parents drink a well deserved cup of tea woth a cake or scone. I was half tempted not to put a review on here as I don't want everyone knowing how great it is.

The perfect place to park if you are climbing on Shepherd's Crag. A 5 minute walk in to some great trad climbs: Little Chamonix and Jackdaw Ridge are 3* low grade climbs for multi-pitch beginners and there are plenty of decent, harder routes. When you have finished, call into the cafe. Good tea and coffee and their cakes are to die for.

It is not the most luxurious place I have stayed in, but probably one of the most unique ones! It all starts with Yolandi being such a wonderful person, taking care ot everything and everyone. She has an unbelievable taste for interior design and turned this old barn into a cozy B&B. The rooms are are fairly small, but each is unique with lovely furniture and paintings. The bathroom is shared with the other residents, but this is not a problem in real life. All is clean and immaculate. Coming into the breakfast room in the morning is a special treat - it is decorated with so much love and detail, you almost forget to eat. Thank you for the great experience and we hope to see you again.

Yolandi makes this B&B really special. She was an amazing host, nothing was too much trouble. The place is very unique and very special. So much of Yolandi's personality is in the decoration. The rooms are spacious, the building is immaculate. Breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended.

Had tea here in late October. Been dozens of time and never had anything but excellent simple food and drink at low prices. The view is free but priceless. They do just basic coffee so if you must have cappacino go elsewhere. Kids toys to play with. Most seating is outside so if you are a big party going on a wet day you may not be comfortable. Parking is free.

Absolutely fantastic tea Room. Great cake, great price. Perfect for a post-climb treat after a day at shepherd's crag! I was disappointed to find that they're not open in the winter.
