Great football & all sports pub
Great people &a pub food
Top pint and they allowed my well behaved dog (and Mrs lol)
This is one of those pubs I've always wanted to go into but never quite plucked the courage to do so. Then once you're in, you wonder why you took so long.
Tucked away behind a row of barbers, banks and takeaways, it survived the history destroying ring road creation that encases Kingston. It sticks out despite being hidden, as a building that doesn't quite belong in this part of town.
The saloon type doors give way to the bar, a TV on opposite sides of the wall, there's a symmetry to the place, and you're spoiled for choice for where to go. You could people-watch at the right side, a prime spot, quite literally watching the world go by. Or you can go to the left, a favoured position of the locals, presumably due to the proximity to the jukebox, slot machine, toilets and "terrace".
I perched on the corner of the bar, couple of pints of Fosters. Cash accepted, both pints south of a fiver. Unfortunately I'd missed the cut off for the sandwiches, genuinely gutted, few places offer this fine line between "pub snack" and "pub food". Intrigued by the need to specify the quality of the 50/50 bread. Sausage and onions will be the priority next time.
They show all the football here, a worthy escape from the town centre to sneak in part or all of a game. That being said, I'd probably make a point of coming here specifically for the game. The pints are cheap, the staff are friendly, it's spacious and quiet. It has a predictability to it, a calmness, depending on your objective - whether it's many pints or recovery mode, this place could tick both boxes.
Pubs like this are a dying breed, this one has even been knocked down and rebuilt further back (c.1950), had it not, the ringroad would've obliterated it. As so much of Kingston's history gets sold off to make luxury flats and questionably affordable housing, I don't think we'd ever get a say in the matter if this were to go. But I'm glad I've been now, and I'm looking forward to going back.
A lovely pub in the centre of Kingston with many tv's covering all sports, the choice of beers were cheap compared with many of the other pubs in the area. The staff were friendly and helpful and the place was a very friendly atmosphere. One to visit on your visit to Kingston.
Conveniently located near the Travelodge, it is a bright good looking pub with nice traditional feel. Good range of beers at a good price. I was made to feel most welcome. Enjoyed watching football with the locals.
Went to watch England playing, pub was quiet as early afternoon, but enjoyable non tue less
Great! Good beer/lager nice sandwiches. Great hospitality. Pity we don't live here,I'd make it my local!!!
What a wonderful warm friendly welcome from the staff and locals! This little pub is right in the heart of the town and is well worth visiting. It also has the sports events on their many TV so will keep fans happy. We will definitely be visiting again
Popped in to write my Christmas cards. Lovely little authentic lady cal pub, I was made to feel very welcome by Gemma, and enjoyed my time there. Thankyou x
Glad to see this pub surviving in Kingston as many have fallen by the wayside.
Service pretty good.
Choice of alcohol beverages good too.
Food menu again quite good.
Excellent for sports esp football as a few screens in here to view from.
If I need a drink when in Kingston this one I like to go in to.Great for a quick beer or a stay for a bite to eat and a few drinks.
Yeah it's was all right. I made my mate laugh to hard he almost puked and on a nice Korean man name Tom. He came out with us and i think he was a little out of his depth. No matter. Was a nice night. Need more scotch eggs through.
