Went for coffee and cake.
This ice/tea place is in an old, 580 years, weavershouse, which is still in its original state
Had the date cake. Nice. No extra sugar was added and still sweet due to the natural sugars. It's on the first floor. There are not many seats (6 tables) but cosy with soft background music.
The owner seemed a bit stressed because he was working alone.
A lovely little shop / cafe in Lavenham, kids really wanted an ice cream, and me and the wife really wanted a hot drink.
Downstairs you can get take out ice cream and buy sweets / cake upstairs there is seating if you want to take it a little more relaxed. There was no one in the cafe part when we went, which is just as well as being an old building its a bit tight if a few people in there...! Kids loved their ice creams, one have a couple of different chocolate ones (scoop of chocolate and a scoop of mint chocolate) and the other had a random combo (scoop of cola cube and a scoop of orange). Its fair to say the orange was a big hit with both wanting it in the end (more than the chocolate to my surprise!)
Wife had a raspberry chocolate cake which was very nice and I had a cream tea, which to be honest I didn't see much of as everyone else ate most of it!! I got a few cups of tea out of the pot I had, so was nice and refreshed by time of leaving.
Great place if its not too busy, but be aware it's an old place so room is a bit tight...!! 😉
What a gem this place is! We had a lovely seafood chowder with a warm bread bun topped with melted cheese and onion - yummy! My husband's mango and hibiscus and orange and cardamon ice creams were delicious. Would definitely recommend eating in the cafe upstairs! x
Absolutely superb little café and crazily cheap. This family-run place offers a wide range of freshly prepared dishes all at extremely reasonable prices. I had delicious bouillabaisse; my partner has a local ham and blue cheese omelette. Then we shared excellent banana cake with an experimental strawberry and beetroot coulis. Everything was great. Highly recommended!
Small and lovely, real gem. Great food, sumptuous cakes varried choice. Only reason it is 4 stars rather than 5 is because the building, beautiful though it is does not allow disabled access. But all in all great cafe.
Sweet Meats is a friendly tiny quirky tea room and sweet shop in Lavenham. The home cooked menu is extensive, original and provides a good selection of tasty vegetarian dishes and desserts. The jazzy background music is very soothing and overall it is a surprising venue and overall experience.
The tiniest, loveliest, tea room ever. Such a great place to eat
Homemade cakes, chocolates and ice cream
Lovely unusual lunches too. Thank you.
Excellent bouillabaisse. Very reasonable price. All made to order. Thoroughly recommend.
Well, what a lovely experience it was having lunch at Sweetmeats. Eclectic, funky and the food was delicious (and reasonably priced!). No boring sandwiches here but handmade, to order, delicious food. Salads, soups, cakes, hot meals, lovely coffee and somehow, apart from serving and cooking and baking and prepping, the owner also manages to make delicious ice cream, chocolates and fudge. We cannot recommend this place enough. Graham and Jane
