Maray is the latest opening at the top end of Bold Street, serving falafels, cocktails and small plates. The interior is dim and bare with a long communal table dominating the thin room creating a lively atmosphere. We headed to Maray for an early evening drink and snack, the prices are quite competitive with most of the menu ranging around £5 for a dish. We had to try the signature falafel bites, this was served with three dips including green chilli, hummus and baba ganoush along with a stack of flatbreads and a token salad. The pick of the dips for me being the chilli. The falafels themselves were small bites which were deep fried, the chickpea filling was nice but they needed to be bigger to avoid being too crispy. We also tried a few other dishes including slow cooked lamb with spinach and turmeric potatoes and an unusual risotto & Parmesan stuffed aubergine. This restaurant is probably the most flavorful one I have come across so far. They know their spices. We ordered a few dishes and all of them are delicious. Coming from Asia, I did not expect the food to pack this much flavor just like the other restaurants I have visited. But that is not the case with this place. Also, the food portion is quite big for the price and quality. Amazing.
Popped in for lunch while wandering around city centre. Had the disco cauliflower which was mind blowing/out of this world!! So many taste sensations at once. Also the calamari which was good and a glass of prosecco. Place was very quiet given location. Two staff in there were really lovely, friendly and attentive.
I took my daughter here for lunch, and we both absolutely loved the place.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
It's a little small inside, but that doesn't take away from its charm.
If you don't want to be inside they do have outside seating, too.

I was visiting Liverpool for the first time in a few years, and Maray was on top of my list for places I wanted to go back to.
The food was still as amazing as I remember and we enjoyed every dish. Service was friendly too.

I went there with my husband for an early dinner and I can’t say that - the food is delicious food. The service was great and amazing atmosphere. We had the steak which was well cooked. We started with the Cauliflower Bhajis which was some thing new to me, but it was a delightful surprise. The baked Halloumi is incredible. The aubergine, is good - nothing exceptional. Although was served with a very taste dip. The Falafel was stunning served with a very well seasoned hummus. The portion of each fish is generous. Ideally 6 tapas should be enough for two people sharing.
Outstanding Mediterranean small plate restaurant. A place to share food and good times, the famed disco cauliflower did not disappoint, and all the other dishes were of the highest quality - the whipped goats cheese was spectacular. Strongly recommend - fantastic veggie/vegan options.
My first visit: popped in on a whim after a scan of the outdoor menu. Was immediately told about the £16 meal 'deal', which I jumped on.
I started with the Boquerones - lovely sardines served al fresco with lemon and sumac. Then came the chickpea dopiaza, a plate so delicious I prevailed upon the waiter to ask chef for the recipe. Also asked for bread to lick the plate clean! My main was a perfect filet of sea bass, served on a bed of fennel and tomato. Again, the fresh pita helped to sop up every bit.
I accompanied the meal with a fine white wine: Chateau Oumsiyat Blanc de Blanc from Lebanon, the perfect accompaniment to a perfect meal, honestly the best I've had in ages.
Following up to say I have returned to Maray many times since my initial visit and have enjoyed all the Vegan options as well as the fish and chicken dishes. The food has been uniformly excellent. The staff are lovely. The bartender is well-versed in the wine menu.
Long-time patron of Maray, normally visiting the Albert Dock restaurant but walking past the Bold Street one ans seeing tables we chanced our arm.
As expected we weren't disappointed, if you want flavoursome tapas then Maray is the place to go. The disco cauliflower is sublime (from someone who hates cauliflower!) and very filling. The crispy fried chicken and aioli is probably the best fried chicken I've had anywhere. Sweet potato chips, falafel and lamb shawarma were all very tasty ans good portion and we also had the quipped goats cheese and pitta which was a nice side plate!
We always go for 6 sides between too because there's too many nice things to eat and occasionally end up having to leave a bit because we're both full. But with flavours this good I want the variety!
Make a booking if you really want to be sure you'll get a table. One place not to be missed if you're visiting Liverpool!
Not only does their Disco Cauliflower dish have one of the best names, It is an absolute stunner. So many flavours going on. Not surprised it is their signature. The prawns, sharwarma & chicken wings were also equally as excellent. Staff were warm and chatty and we loved the character of the place, which is small but perfectly formed.
Try a cocktail from the specials menu.. I had their signature marg, and it was fresh, juicy and zipped right along.
Magical Maray!
Good selection of vegetarian and vegan options. All small dishes good for sharing with 2-3 dishes per person. Disco cauliflower is a must have (every table ordered it during our visit), the sauce was super delicious. Sea bass was also very good, crispy skin and rich flavour. The restaurant gets super busy around 7pm so make sure to book in advance!
