I left Incredibly impressed by the food. Everything was simply perfect. Not overly salty (which seemed to be big issue at other establishments) and cooked perfectly. My favorite was the mushroom foam with bits of mushroom and other yummy bits. I normally hate foam. It usually looks unappealing and taste bad but this mushroom consume foam was mind blowing, lightly frothy but packed with umami. I like this place for their creative plates that revealed clever combinations of food that paired well with each other and got better with each bite as you discovered more underneath the layers of food. This was easily my best meal in London. A real 3 Michelin star restaurant that deserves it. The lunch meal was a incredible value. Restaurants over 20 years old holding two Michelin stars are a rare sight these days around London so today we thought we’d go and visit one. Phil Howard has been at The Square over half his life after stints with the legendary Marco Pierre White at Harveys and Albert Roux at Le Gavroche. These days he’s the owner of The Square restaurant and author of its two books ‘Savoury’ and ‘Sweet’ both of which are quality works of a man dedicated to his craft.

A great restaurant to visit in the heart of London. The food is amazing. Tasty and incredibly well presented. The place is very nice and welcoming. Staff is nice. Highly recommended 👍👍👍
''Bijou' ambience, really Great service, 'modern' formal without being stiff. A great place to go with friends and family for a special occasion. The best thing about this place is it being perfect for all the occasions. We opted for the tasting menu which had 9 courses. The courses were playful enough without going overboard. The chef has an menu to choose from, we started with lasagne of Dorset crab with cappuccino of shellfish land champagne foam, this is one of their signature dish and the best too. Rest of the food was awesome.
In desserts I recommend passion fruit and lemon soufflé.
The service was excellent as you would expect from a two Michelin star restaurant.
I have a significant backlog of meals that are in the blog queue. My last visit to the Square was late in January which I had yet to write about. Yet, when browsing through the news on twitter today, I was hit by the bombshell that this was the last week for Gary Foulkes. Say what?!? I so happened to be around the vicinity, attending a course at the Royal Society of Medicine and after confirming that the rumours were indeed true, decided to drop by the Square to have one last meal with Gary in charge.
We have just returned from a nice holiday away to the Far East. I will update the blog with a few of our meals out there. In the mean time, I have a back log of meals to cover from before we headed off for our vacation. I popped in to the Square for a cheeky Saturday lunch as I was around the area looking to purchase a suit for my sister’s wedding. A quick phone call confirmed that they had a table free so I made no hesitation in heading there. I was greeted by familiar faces, none more so than sommelier Mohammed whom I have not seen during my last couple of visits to the Square. After exchanging pleasantries, I was shown to my table and with a nice cold glass of ’05 Dom Perignon in hand, started to make the difficult decision of what I would be eating.
I was lucky enough to spend a couple of weeks working out of London, which was exciting enough on its own, but even more so given my love of fine dining. With a veritable smorgasbord of incredible restaurants on offer, how would I ever be able to narrow the choice down to just a few special dining establishments?
We spent half of our honeymoon in London, March 2013 and The Square was on our list of Michelin star restaurants to visit. We did the 3 course dinner at £90pp. Quite steep when you converted it to South African Rands at the time but well worth every cent. The banana souffle was the highlight of the evening. My husband still speaks about it. Definitely worth a visit if you're a keen foodie and can afford it ☺
Since the last time I wrote about the Square, they have seen 4 different maître d’s, a change in their head chef (Rob Weston has now moved on to head up La Trompette which is also owned by Nigel Platts-Martin, in his place is Gary Foulkes, a former sous chef here), a dining room refresh and a new kitchen being fitted. During my time of non-blogging, I have become somewhat of a regular here and have even done a day’s stage in their kitchen – trust me when I say that it is really tough work.
it's been a lovely experience. the tasting menu is delicious, and the quality of the food is among the highest. the staff is professional and kind. One star is not enough!
Food was faultless, but service was very mixed to be honest, which was a surprise. Still we had a good evening with some stunning food. Would still recommend, would've been five stars if the service had been on form, such a shame.
Good food, but some of the dishes could do with a little more work so that all the elements work together better.
The private dining room we were in was nice. The wine available by the glass wasn't really what I would go for, but what I did compromise on was nice.
Service as good, but not great. For example a batch of bread and butter was brought, then later more butter, then later still more bread. Some idea of what was to come, apart from the menu items, would be nice. Oh, and some better butter. The butter tasting I did in France may have ruined me, but I can get better butter than this in Tesco or Waitrose.
Service ***** = Excellent, friendly attentive staff.
Food **** = Flavour of the food was very good, presentation of some was questionable, my mushroom & hazelnut starter looked like an unappetising grey foam.
Atmosphere*** = The minimal interior was probably designed to create a modern, sleek vibe, but it was lacking in energy, they need background music and/or some art on the walls.
Absolutely one of the best dining experiences we have had in years. Every course was exquisite and perfection. The service was brilliant as well. Can't wait to go back. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!
We had the 7 course vegetarian menu and it was equisite. Highly recommended for fine dining if you're vegetarian too!
I think the have more work to be in one place as the other 1 michelin star restaurant in the area (I am talking about the menu)

The Square reopened to public. Food was very good. We all enjoyed our evening.
Tasting menu is divine. Service impeccably executed. Atmosphere calm.
