Originally from Malaysia, live in London now. Have been going to Rasa Sayang many times for my Malaysian food fix, never disappointed. Shame to read some of the reviews here of poor service and food. I have never experienced that myself so please don't let that put you off this place.

Superb Menu, great choices really gets your taste buds going ! To enjoy the experience do book in advance , you will not be disappointed , I have so many favourite dishes , hard to choose but Roti Canai followed by Char Kway Chow , if you have room left all the desserts are excellent :) Having lived in Borneo, eating here brings back great memories of my weekly visit to Pasar Malam with all the lovely Malay foods - ENJOY :)

It’s located in London Chinatown. The foods are served super quick. I tried the konloh mee hainanese chicken. It’s good and delicious. But the portion is too big for me to finish it alone. The staffs are super friendly. Will try other menu if visit again.

Considering the reviews I was expecting better, but still was a well worth experience. The food was good and the service was very quick and partially friendlier then expected in Chinatown.

Rasa Sayang

One of the most highly recommended restaurant by friends and bloggers was this Malaysian restaurant called Rasa Sayang in Chinatown, London. This eatery was on my list of restaurants to try during my Summer trip to London. The restaurant is small and cute which is the case with majority of restaurants specially in Central London.

For me personally the menu was very confusing because I haven’t eaten a lot of Malaysian food so I got a bit lost while deciding what to order. So after taking some help from the server, we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 Mains.

APPETIZERS
1. Roti Canai - This is apparently one of their traditional dishes which is very popular with guests. Its very similar to the Paratha with gravy of Indian Cuisine. The Paratha was crispy and loaded and the gravy was very spicy and thick. I really liked this dish because it was very simple yet flavourful.
2. Grilled Satay - This was a very familiar dish so I had to order it. This dish has grilled chicken(beef and lamb options also available) on skewers served with peanut sauce, a salad of cucumber & onion and rice cake. The chicken was cooked so well that it was so soft and was melting in the mouth.

MAIN COURSE
1. Nasi Goreng - I fell in love with this dish when I some some Malaysian and Indonesian friends during my Industrial training in Dubai back in 2008. I always order Nasi Goreng if its on the menu in any restaurant. I like the dish because all the ingredients are very basic and simple but they pair well with each other. The plate consisted of fried rice with shrimps covered with sunny side up fried egg garnished with anchovies. The rice were accompanied by Chicken Satay with peanut sauce and cucumbers.
2. Egg Fried Rice - This is the staple dish for my son. He can survive and happily eat egg fried rice all day, every day.

I ordered Iced Tea which was fresh and homemade .

The service was below average because the staff looked very unhappy and never smiled. It was only when we paid the bill and were about to leave, they smiled.

Total Bill - £31.60 including tax and tip.

If I’m feeling homesick, this is where I come. The dishes (and the atmosphere) are as authentic as they get! The Nasi Lemak is brilliant, so is the Nasi kampong, the kway teow and the satay. Give the keuh dadar a go - it’s definitely a trip down memory lane for me!

We were in the mood for some Malay food and seeing the great ratings this place had decided try it out for dinner a few days back.

We reached there by 8 and it was packed had to wait for 15 minutes to get a table.
Went with the classic Chicken Satay and Oyster omelette for starters. The satay tasted good but I didn't care much for the slimy texture of the oysters and felt the basic omelette was also very greasy.

For mains we shared the Nasi Goreng,Singapore Fried Rice and the Chicken Rendang which came with a mound of steamed rice.It all tasted good and the portions were generous.

The kitchen is situated downstairs and the piping hot food is delivered to the dining room via a dumb waiter

It was my first time trying Malaysian food and I loved it. Their prices are very reasonable and you'll have more delicious food than you can finish. I usually walk out of here with a take away bag.

"London 🇬🇧 was heaven for me for the short visit. But I had to struggle to find great food unlike Dubai"😁😀

Malaysian Food: I have tried the first time. Maybe my menu choice which I made was not that right. I have ordered LOR MEE, it was kind of noodle bowl with Chicken and Prawn based gravy. At the begging, I had enjoyed a lot with the crispy chicken topped. But after few sip, it was like so salty and soya sauce quantity is little more. I realized maybe everything from every cuisine you may not like but give a try is mostly give you best experience.

Actually, I was searching a Halal food place and I found them in Zomato. Overall it was a good experience and I would love to go again and try something else.

Food - 3.5/5

Ambience - 4.5/5

Service - 4.5/5 Quick and Friendly.

Price - 20/30 GBP for 2 people /💷

Recommendations -If you are looking for halal food like me or you have interest in Malaysian food you must visit.
Location - Location was easy to find. It is in the China Town Soho Area.

Came to Rasa Sayang for the first time after passing it a few times. The diner was clean and the decor is basic with the walls painted red one side and white the other. I guess you could say it was clinical. There were a mix of people; Malay, Chinese, Indian and obviously British. I took my brother with me and tried their starter chicken satay skewers and the mains two portions of Hainanese chicken rice (only remembered watching a clip of Rick Stein trying this dish in Malaysia, thought we gave it a go) via ice lemon tea and a cincau (grass jelly) drink.
There is no introduction to ice lemon tea, just a standard drink. But the cincau is synonymous to South-East Asia, also known as grass jelly, is a healthy, black coloured plant-based jelly drink, an acquired taste to Westerners palette.
The satay skewers came during our main course which normally a no no because it is a 'starter.' Anyway, the chicken skewers had a curried marinate with a slight char colouring came with peanut dipping sauce. It had some flavour but the chicken itself and the peanut satay sauce could do with less oil; it left a greasy after taste!
Our mains, the Hainanese chicken rice (I am sorry I have no photos, was in a rush!) came as 3 parts: the chicken in a bed of soy and sesame sauce with beansprouts, the bowl-shaped white rice with 2 slices of cucumber and a bowl of chicken broth. The chicken was so tender and juicy; could be corn-fed chicken giving it a silky texture and dipping it with ginger/ garlic chilli sauce seem to work your tastebuds! The rice was a good sized portion, tasted like it was cooked with chicken stock as added flavour. The chicken broth clensed the palette to finish off the meal. It can't be a bad thing that there was no food left on the plate and we both thoroughly
enjoyed our meal. The price was good, looking at £25 without drinks & the staff were attentive and friendly. I will definitely come back to try out other dishes!!

Been to Rasa Sayang a couple of times and food is consistently decent. The beef noodles are really nice and the roti canai with chicken is delicious but the chicken is on a bone which, in a curry in a small bowl, makes it rather difficult to eat. The Char Kway Teow is also nice and the Chargrilled Tiger Prawns were quite dry and not very flavourful. Prices decent and service efficient.

As a Malaysian myself, this was some of the best Malaysian food I’ve had outside of Malaysia, even rivalling some places back home! The char kueh teow was authentic, yummy, and hefty portions. Beef rendang was top tier and reminded me of home. All the portions were incredibly generous and service was great. Will 100% be coming back on my next visit to London!

I’ve been here a few times, for the price you pay you are well fed and the roti cannai is one of the best and the veg dishes were different, give it a go!We came in large group to celebrate a birthday and they kindly accommodated in a booth type space but they only have one available so pre book! This is not a place for fine dinning but if you want good food and a place just to hang out and dress how you please, this would be it. Our waitress Alice was wonderful and prior visit the other waitress with very short hair was also amazing. The reason I’ve given it 5 is because you get you pay for and a good variety to choose from and it’s pretty tasty.

Went there twice. Had the hor fun, mee goreng, sambal and char kway teow. Everything was super good, including their kopi & teh tarikh. Tasted authentic Singaporean food in London;)

Buzzing place, you know the food is good when the regional people are eating there, spoke to some lovely malaysian people. My utmost respect to the cooks and service staff as they went above and beyond. Would have liked more help when ordering the food, like a mix of dishes not much in the way of balance when our food came. Our own fault but perhaps preventative.

This has been on our list for a while and been wanting to try them for the Malaysian delicacies. Finally visited it. Though we didn’t have prior reservation we did get the table quickly. There were few free tables at the basement but they got occupied real quick. Ambiance is pleasant. Service is very quick. For drinks we had Lychee Cooler, which is a gin based cocktail and a Guava Shorline which is a non-alcoholic drink. Both were delish. Really loved them. We ordered vegetarian Tempeh to share, which were like soy chips in a really yummy sauce. It was very flavourful. For mains, I went with Treasures Buddha's delight which sounded interesting based on its description. The dish says it comes with noodles but they ain’t the main sized noodles but they are very minimal. Our server Alice did recommend ordering a rice side along with it. The dish was gooood but wasn’t as flavourful as our starter/tempeh. Personally would have loved to have a bit more flavour in this dish. Other half ordered Nasi Goreng (S) which he said he really enjoyed. It came with rice, prawn crackers, and a crispy wing kinda thing. The portion was great for the price. One of the best so far he has had in London. Overall a wonderful experience.. Alice was great with the service, 5/5 stars for her 🙂

Spacious space and kind staffs! Foods were tasty, but was a bit mild then needed a little more seasoning. So we asked chilly oil(there were shrimps in it, so tasty), foods were became perfect flavours. Saw lots Malaysian and Singaporean customers, lots family group visit.

We enjoyed our meal at Rasa Sayang. Food was quick and service was good - they took allergies seriously. The overall quality of the food could be better - the beef in the beef rendang was tough and a bit hard to chew. There could be more dipping sauce with the spring rolls. The jasmine rice and the morning glory were very good.
