If anyone is looking for a central London venue for a night out in style, The Lucky Pig is definitely a great choice. They create some fabulous cocktails, the staff are friendly and the decor/vibe is pure decadence! You can also hire the venue for private parties.

We started with the Isadora Belle – a concoction of Belvedere Raspberry Vodka, framboise, pineapple juice and Prosecco, served in a martini glass and was delicious. We also tried a more light, refreshing Grey Goose Le Fizz – Grey Goose Vodka, lime, elderflower and soda.

From one extreme to another - whereas Crazy Bear (where we'd been first) was all about dressy excess and exotic drinks, The Lucky Pig is a casual establishment more focused on having a good time. It serves classic cocktails and they're all a much more manageable £9.50. But, we were here for the Challenge so at first we didn't look at the regular menu. Instead, upon proffering my Chambord passport, I was shown a specially created Chambord menu with four to choose from. I had a julep and Stephen had an Isadora Belle - a fruity number with bubbles.

Both were very nice to drink and persuaded us to have another from their regular menu. We decided to stick to traditional gender roles for this - Stephen had a masculine old fashioned and I had a feminine cocktail that blended wine with mango vodka and elderflower. It was a cool and refreshing drink but still a little spiky from the vodka. Stephen's old fashioned was a very good one, not being too overpoweringly straight alcohol but still plenty strong.

We then chatted to the bartender quite a bit who was telling us about what goes on each day of the week and the ethos of the bar being about somewhere you can have a dance on the weekends while still enjoying a good drink. The bar decor itself reflected this - it was definitely channelling the distressed glamour look that Shoreditch and Dalston do so well. It reminded us of Ruby's although in this case, the look was undoubtedly manufactured. The music, even on a Tuesday was fairly crowd-pleasing - some Alt J, a little James Brown, Ray LaMontagne. I can imagine them playing more of the same, but more upbeat on the weekends.

I found myself walking to The Lucky Pig as the sinusitis kicked in, precipitated with a does of orange - yes, ORANGE - goo coming from my nose and fighting the throng of angry commuters pouring from Goodge Street Station on one of those London nights where it wasn’t quite raining, but if you didn't have an umbrella you would regret it. I didn’t, and did. It was going to take a special kind of bar to right this perfect storm of wrong.

The ‘Pig is hardly perfect. It’s location, in uncharted Fitzrovia, somewhere grubby, south of the BT Tower - is well off the beaten track, though we stumbled upon Bubbledogs as we made our way there. It’s on Clipstone street. Does that help?

Actually, it’s *below* Clipstone Street, in an old cellar, accessed by a flight of those rickety, slippery staircases you see hanging off the side of Manhattan tenements. The whole location - inside and out - seems like an afterthought, though intentionally so, in that kind of downtrodden, like-I-give-a-damn way that, for my sins, really does work rather well in setting the scene and readying the wallet. Inside, you are treated to toilets whose doors are marked with Patsy Stone and Michael Caine, walls without paint or paper, arbitrarily adorned with pseudo-retro poster prints of curvy fifties gals. All this is offset with plush and ample seating arrangements, where everyone - latecomer or otherwise - will win. The mixture of deep armchairs, futons, chaises longues and cushioned alcoves inspired me to write my last post, inspired by a bar that has finally got bumparking right. Hallelujah!

Now, spare seating does mean that the ‘Pig was not full… of course, a half-empty bar does get the mind racing as to what it could be that is preventing the townsfolk from settling here. I doubt it’s the backwoods location - Londoners, what with their fraught lives and penchant for the darkness can sniff out a good bar a mile away. So we allayed the nerves and got on with some serious drinking in this self-styled ‘decadent drinking den’.

The cocktail menu, all priced at nine-fifty, transcends all four corners of the mixologist’s spectrum, from sweet to bitter, from classic to original. The bon-viveurs will not leave disappointed nor wanting, though from such a menu expect a few metaphorical balls to be dropped. The steal of the evening was a well-thought out Breakfast Martini (remember that?!), awesome in its tartness and citrusy linger (though a toast garnish was lacking). But then again, does gin ever disappoint? The other day, someone who’s cropped up called Elle argued the case a lot more articulately than I ever could;

“…that’s because cider tastes like tramp’s wee, whereas gin is like licking the beads of sweat off the brow of an ancient bacchanalian goddess”

Other highlights from the ‘Pig included the rum section, where a Trinidad Swizzle was perfectly sharp and spicy and just the right side of weird, whereas the Cuba Cuba was served in a hurricane glass, so the fact that it was made with wine, pineapple and passionfruit and was summery as shit is completely irrelevant. The Isadora Belle was all about strawberry, raspberry and prosecco, a little too fruity (even for me) but still good and lickable.

Whereas most the menu was a hit parade, some things came across as a random collection of ingredients, mashed together because they sounded right at the time. The Martini Royale brought together lime, mint, prosecco and Martini Bianca. Despite good intentions, it all seemed to collapse into itself and at the end of the day, tasted like water. Having said that, I was snotty so maybe, just maybe I’ll concede that on this occasion, it was my taste buds, not the gregarious chap behind the bar. On that note, there is no waiter service so, like Argos, you pay and collect.

We left earlier than I would have liked as frankly, I was feeling like my nose had a bendy bus stuck up there, and a combination of no lunch, paracetamol and three rounds of strong liquor had left me yearning for the recorded Holby City then a warm bed. But you better bloody believe I’ll be back, as The Lucky Pig rocks. It may be dressed down as a trendy, mock-vintage ubiquitous undercroft of alcoholic capers - delivering all that is promised - but it’s friendly down here too and comfortable, in both the mental and literal sense.

Above the Lucky Pig a section of pavement is punctuated with those glass blocks. Lit from above by a street light, the shadows of passers by flickered on our table as we drank. Even that was a different experience, warming and clandestine, further inspiring feelings of “yes, this place is a keeper”.

If you are looking for calm nice relaxing place to enjoy your cocktail with a rustic look and feel, this is the place to be. I had been here on weekday it had good vibes and the hospitality is top notch. The staff always made sure our cocktails were made tailored to our liking. They had good knowledge about spirits and recommendations were amazing.

Went for their cocktail making class, so much fun! Relaxed atmosphere where you get to make 3 cocktails each in your own time, showed how to make them and then go behind the bar to do it yourself. Francisco who taught us was incredibly friendly and taught us well. The cocktails themselves were beautiful too and pretty unique! Would recommend to anyone for the cocktail class or just to go for a few drinks.

A hidden gem in the city. I organised my cousin's hen here on a Saturday night and I was really impressed with the super friendly and helpful staff, amazing music and great vibes. We enjoyed our cosy alcove area. The DJ was excellent - he played RnB and garage. Drinks aren't cheap but the service is one of the best I've come across. Highly recommended!

Took their cocktail master class with Arnaud and met the owner Fredrik, both wonderful people, very knowledgeable and friendly. I had a fantastic time learning to create some of their signature and some classic cocktails. Would absolutely recommended visiting.

We went into The Lucky Pig on a Saturday afternoon for the coktail masterclass. This was a totally different experince to other cocktail classes I've been to and I really enjoyed it! We got to take a look at the menu and choose which cocktail(s) we liked the look of. Our bartender, Arnaud (who is an absolute legend), first showed us how to make the cocktail and let us try so we knew what it should taste like. He then invited two of us behind the bar to do it ourselves. At the end of our class the general manager, Fredrik, came out and we all had a really nice chat about all sorts. In short, lovely staff and fantastic drinks- I would highly recommend stopping by.

Had my 30th birthday here at the weekend. Soph the events organiser was so quick to respond to any of my queries and helped me get everything set up. Fredrik and the team was so welcoming and so lovely on the night and even created special themed cocktail for me and the party! Everyone who came loved the atmosphere and the overall vibe. The staff were fantastic and helped me with everything that was needed! Thanks so much for a great night! I couldn’t have asked for more! Highly recommend!
