🚇 East Ham
🍺 £4.40 Amstel
❤️ A superb E6 locals pub.
.
The Red Lion is located on High Street South which is at the quieter end of East Ham High Street. East Ham Tube is just over a ten minute walk away.
.
The Red Lion formerly (The Hammers) was built in 1841 which makes it East Ham’s oldest surviving pub. This is a red brick two storey pub which is clad in claret tiles in homage to this pubs heritage as a staunch West Ham United pub. The pub was refurbished back in 2018 and the pub’s original name reinstated.
.
The decor here is contemporary and has an American bar feel to it. The are exposed brickwork walls which are accentuated by red neon and led lights. This one bar pub has a good size bar and a pool table to one side. The seating here is comfy leather banquettes and booths plus traditional low level seating. At the rear of the pub is a large beer garden which was under construction at the time of visiting.
.
The beer choice is straightforward and well priced, I had a pint of Amstel which was an enjoyable pint and cost only £4.40. This pub has a strong pizza offering so I thought I’d try one out. I had the Salsiccia E Friarelli pizza which has Italian pork and chilli flakes on it, my pizza was fantastic and I couldn’t finish it, it was so filling. Price point was good, most pizzas cost around £13. This pub also offers roasts on a Sunday.
.
The pub opens at 4pm during the week and I arrived just after opening.
The atmosphere was relaxed and calm with a few locals in attendance. The soundtrack was British indie and American rock which created a inviting ambiance around the place. The pub has live music nights, DJ nights and quizzes to keep you entertained. The service was great, the staff here were very personable and nothing was a problem.
.
The @redlione6 is another footy pub which has reinvented itself and done a cracking job. The drinks price point makes this an inviting pub for the local community and the food is tasty and hearty. This pub is an absolute triumph and a must visit East Ham pub.

Great little pub that does good pizzas! The one in the picture is the All The Meats option, and was really tasty - cooked nicely! 👍
My wife and I got married at East Ham Town Hall in July and had our reception here. The pub has a big garden and you can hire the whole place for the day + food for a very reasonable price. We had 150 guests and thanks to the efforts of landlady Aleks + staff had an amazing day. The food (buffet) was great, the garden is perfect for a summer party, and there is a function room + soundsystem. Aleks allowed us in early on the day to decorate the place and no request was too much. Definitely recommend this pub, for hire or just a pint and some food (they do good pizzas and Sunday roasts).
First here for us, we heard the pizzas were good. They were better than good they were great. Ingredients all sourced in Italy and it showed. Prosciutto carved off a ham not peeled off a packet. Both were perfect and cooked with skill in a great oven. Flavoured oils and good balsamic for the salads too. Had a tadter of the mac and cheese, menu said creamy , it was very creamy. Too full for desserts, maybe next time. Also a good selection of beers, we had a local Camden one. A range of very reasonable cocktails too, Pisco sour is a great one or Negroni. Hard to choose. Will be back. Staff and owner were polite and charming. All this in East Ham, why did We not find this before.
