Cute little canal side cafe. Great for the summer if you can grab a seat outside, but also nice inside watching the rain through the big open glass windows. Food is simple and not too expensive. Breakfast is my fave with eggs on toast, granola etc. They have a good selection of cakes as well for a tea or coffee break mid afternoon.
If you want to experience first hand a complete cross-section of London’s population, head to the canals. There, along the narrow towpaths that criss-cross the city like crow’s feet on a tired old man’s face, you’ll see the capital’s demographic in all it
Situated right on the canal, this little cafe is a stonesthrow away from the Broadway Markets. Tucked into an apartment block it is tiny inside, most of the seating is outside and we happened to come at the perfect time at 3pm to get a table in the fleeting sunlight. Apparently its super busy over lunch and mid morning so either get up early or mid afternoon.
The atmosphere is laid back and relaxed and a great place to slowly sip at your coffee in the sunshine.
The coffee was good, the food simple but delicious. I just had eggs on toast and they eggs were cooked perfectly!
If I was writing a Lazy eekend in East London feature for TimeOut, I would probably recommend the following: first have brunch with friends on the Broadway market, after the brunch enjoy a pleasant walk down the canal all the way to Towpath Cafe, stop at Towpath for coffee while watching idle ducks and energetic joggers, enjoy the sunshine (if any), and then carry on walking down the canal all the way to the Regent's park...
Alternatively, you could stop at Towpath first thing in the morning for a coffee and toast, as @MisoHungry recommended below. Overall, it's a pleasant cafe with decent coffee and deliciously-lookig cookies, the location right on the canal being its main advantage. There is not much to do here when cold and rainy, however if the weather is favourable, you could spend a whole careless afternoon at the cafe just chilling and chatting with friends and watching East London society at its finest.
I had a cup of tea with a gluten-free rice tart you can see on the photo. The latter was actually really pleasant, very light and delicate, and not too sweet either. I was about to go for another one, but the view of endless joggers made me feel slightly guilty – next time I am going for a run first before stopping at Towpath for a treat!
Wandered past here on a sunny Sunday morning. At 11am it's already busy! Cute place to relax and have a decent cup of coffee and cake. Most tables are outside so can't imagine the ambiance on a rainy day. If you are in the mood for a complex brunch offering then this is not the place for you. Breakfast menu is simple fare. On offer that day was granola with rhubarb compote, toast with fried eggs and toast with jam. Miso on a caffeine buzz!!
One word to describe this place would be "cute". You really need to pick your moment to be at this cafe though, its got to be a sunny day if you want to make the best of it. Its on the Regents canal and a place such as this cafe has its fair share of regulars as well.
I was quite lucky to spend a sunny Saturday morning getting rid of my hangover with the fantastic coffee they serve. Once found a seat I was determined to stay there for hours and honestly I didn't have to try too hard, the place is that charming on a bright day.
I started ordering from home made jam and toast to salmon sandwich to tortilla to the perfect tarts and cakes. I was there for about 2 and a half hours and would have stayed longer if my bladder hadn't interrupted or if they had a bathroom facility.
Not to be missed.
Good for coffees and pastries. Never tried proper lunch. It's amazing in spring/summer when it's sunny, but it gets busy early.
The owner is a lovely lady that spent part of her life in Italy, which is probably why coffees are above London average
really lovely cafe by the river - the atmosphere was spectacular in the evening. my friend and I went for dinner and all that we tried were delicious, especially the braised lamb and mozzarella with pickled radicchio. we thought the crab deviled eggs portion small for its price, though. the service felt a little slow at times, especially between our first and second dish. the servers were very, very nice! in summary, the meal was really quite wonderful and I am super glad we tried it!! If I were to come by again the occasion would have to be special.
Be prepared to wait in the queue!
We went on a Sunday morning and queued for over an hour.
Food was great tho so worth it to do at least once. Especially the grilled cheese.
Peaceful cafe in London! And perfect taste of food! But actually their serving speed was too slow🥲 btw,I love here
Such a cute little place on the canal, with lovely staff, fantastic food, and great atmosphere. You get sat wherever there is space so it’s nice to chat to other people while you eat. Definitely recommend!
Super cute place right on the water that makes super delicious and fresh food. They are quite busy so you will most likely have to wait for a table, especially since they don’t take reservations, but it is definitely worth the wait. Only downside is the portions are on the smaller side so I would recommend getting one of the toasts and perhaps another side or pastry.
Such a cute setting by the canal - but very popular during the weekend. There is a queue for a table and the food takes even longer to arrive after the order, but somehow all dishes are totally worth the wait. Mozarella salad is to die for and petit lucques olives are so yummy!
Having read the reviews beforehand I knew that I was in for a wait. I arrived at 12:15 which turned out to be the perfect time as they stop breakfast at 12 and start lunch at 1. We were therefore in the front of the line for the lunch service. We were seated around 12:45 and had a mint tea for 15 mins before the menu was brought out. We ordered quickly and the food came out within 10 mins!
Lots of people have complained about the staff being rude or the food taking ages. Both were completely untrue in my experience! Staff were beyond friendly and food was quick. However I noticed that they ran out of popular dishes very quickly—I was so glad we were one of the first to order. Food took longer for those after us as well.
Everything was absolutely delicious, it was one of the best lunches I’ve ever had. Vanilla soft serve was unexpectedly wonderful. I loved everything and can’t wait to go back next year.
Food is underwhelming and expensive compared to other spots along the canal, and they don't have decaf coffee or non diary milk. Location and service are great
Beautiful food - every dish was innovative and delicious, with high quality ingredients. There's always a queue but you can order a drink and olives while you wait if want! And it's nice to queue and chat with friends if you know to expect it. Lovely spot on the canals too, and great for dogs.
Great spot for breakfast. Weather was perfect and staff were really lovely. Great to sit beside canal and let the world pass by. The tomato verde on toast was excellent, fried eggs were delicious too.
Will definitely go back
