A nice little busy cafe restaurant, would be great in the summer. The food seems popular because of the number of takeaway bikers pulling up, and the bright lights, crazy music and friendly staff make it an interesting dining experience in a cramped space at this time of the year. I tried the chicken dum biryani, which had a nice spiciness to it along with all the flavours. The onion raitha, gravy complimented the main dish. The teh tarik, a sweet tea, topped off the meal nicely. I would definitely try more of the menu - the dosa and the Malaysian selection of rice and noodles is next - for such reasonable prices!
- masala dosa £7.49
- kuey teow goreng £8.99
- roti w/ chicken curry £8.99
firstly, it is a very small place with small tables and even only as a group of two, we struggled to fit comfortably but we made it work😅 their menu is broad and offers both south-indian and malaysian dishes but we went with what the staff said was most popular.
this was my first time trying dosa but i really liked it! the dosa was very crispy and comes filled with spiced potato, which was sooo flavourful. it also came with two chutneys and sambal on the side - my fav was the tomato chutney bc it was refreshing and balanced out the spice. the roti was not bad but it was not the best, as it was more chewy than flakey - i found out afterwards that they pre-make the rotis in the day and then reheat them in the evening so they’re technically not 100% fresh. the chicken curry also could’ve been better because it was reliant on chilli and i couldn’t really taste anything else.
perhaps i am bias bc i love noodles but the star of the show was the kuey teow goreng! the wok hei was prominent and the seasoning was just right - not overly salty or bland. we did originally ask for it with seafood but were given chicken but it was delicious nonetheless. everything is reasonably priced and the portions on the whole are also good so i’d love to come back - i already have my eyes on the laksa!
Very good fluffy roti with delicious spicy Dal curry... I would rate the spiciness as UK 5 chili, Malaysian 3 chili.
I do love a good Dosa and they did well.
Crispy shell but not quite enough masala... The chutneys elevated the whole dish especially the mint one.
The salt and pepper prawns and wings were super moreish and service was super speedy.
Very strategic location beside St Pancras and King Cross Train station within reasonable minutes of walking distance. A small cozy Malaysian restaurant with a great emphasis on Indian-themed food. Here's what I had:
【Masala Dosa】
- Very delicious fillings of masala inside the dosa
- Great choices of chutneys provided as well
【Mee Goreng with Prawns】
- Standard level of Mee Goreng
【Lamb Curry】
- I was stunned by the small bowl of portions at first but happy to see 4 pieces of great quality mutton later on which were all cooked well with rich combination of spieces.
It is worth visiting again for more Indian-themed cuisine which are what they are best at.
We had chicken masala dosa, Fish curry with steamed rice, Salt an pepper wings, Mango lassi.
Food was great 👍
We visited this place today for dinner and had to queue for a few mins before we were seated. There are around five tables inside and seating is a bit cramped. We had the masala dosa, roti with chicken curry, nasi goreng, nasi lemak and curry laksa. The roti with chicken curry came out on top and I loved it. Masala dosa was good with the chutneys and sambar. Curry laksa had good flavour but the contents in the curry were a bit underwhelming with few chicken pieces and tofu and more beansprouts. Nasi goreng had flavour but again didn't feel authentic with the contents in it. Nasi lemak had rice which was plain boiled rice instead of fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk. The fried chicken with it lacked seasoning. I got the chicken biriyani and such fire chicken to takeaway and the portion sizes were a bit dismal for the price. We may return for the roti curry in future.
Great place for authentic malaysian food. The nasi lemak and rotis were my personal favourites. Great service aswell , made us feel very welcome.
Great Malaysian Food!
Hawker’s Kitchen is located near Kings Cross Station, around 5 minutes walk.
I went for dinner and upon arriving I had to queue for 10 minutes for a table of two. The restaurant is very small and generally can only accommodate for no more than 2-4 people.
I ordered a cold Teh Tarik which costs £2.49, the Teh Tarik tasted great. I also ordered the salt and pepper king prawns which costs £8.99. The prawns are deep fried in oil and the batter is nice, the right consistency in my opinion.
For the main dish, I ordered the Nasi Lemak which costs £9.99. The Nasi Lemak took longer to arrive than my friend’s dish but the waitress did mention it would take 20 minutes. My friend who is Malaysian said the dish looked as how you would find in Malaysia. The sambal tasted nice and spicy and the fried chicken was crispy.
Overall, I the food was very nice and the price is reasonable. They also don’t add any service charge which is a pleasant surprise in London. I would recommend to others looking for Malaysian food if you’re in the area and don’t mind queuing.
Delicious Dosas and Malaysian dishes. Consistently good both times we've visited. Will be back very soon!
