On our way for a short break in Sudbury, we diverted to Long Melford to find somewhere for a light lunch. Long Melford has a lovely main street, with a good range of independent shops, cafes, pubs, etc; in short, the perfect English small town. After a short stroll to see what's available, we opted for the Long Melford Tea Room, a pretty little place, completely in keeping with the the surroundings and the idealistic view of a traditional English tea room. We weren't disappointed! The ambience is as near perfect as one could expect, with tablecloths, real flowers on the tables, traditional decor and displays of vintage chinaware and ornaments. The menu is short but with a perfectly adequate choice (this is a tea room, not a restaurant) and prices are reasonable. However, what makes this establishment outstanding is the quality of the food and the excellent, friendly service. We chose the Cheddar cheese, sundried tomato and pesto toasted sandwich. The bread was proper stuff (presumably from a local craft bakery?) and the filling was very generous. It was accompanied by a salad garnish and "hand cooked" crisps; the latter were presented in chintzy, vintage demi-tasse coffee cups - a delightful little touch. Overall, this was a lovely experience. If only we had a similar traditional cafe where we live! (Suffolk is a little bit too far from Warwickshire for this to be a regular lunch venue).

As regular customers we are always happy to visit and sad to leave. From the warm welcome from Teresa and Sharon to the superb, delicious cakes and scones, we are always delighted. The frequency of new scones and cakes means there is always something delicious to try. We will be back again and again.

A typical country village tea room serving cream teas and light snacks until about 5pm. Cosy atmosphere, attentive service and lovely cakes.

During an impromptu visit to Long Melford last Saturday we decided to take shelter from the rain and have a cup of coffee. We were made to feel so relaxed and comfortable that we ordered toasted sandwiches and delicious cake too! (I recommend the Victoria Sponge) The sisters make you feel so welcome and chat to everyone as if they've known you for years! The memorabilia on the shelves is lovely to look at and the china is so pretty. We were so impressed that we have already booked to go to one of their Candlelight evenings in December. Check out their Facebook page.

Spare afternoon in Suffolk. Visited Long Melford by chance. Delightful, but small tea room with welcoming staff. Tea was hot, with a choice; my Lapsang was excellent. Cakes and soup were home made; leek and potato soup was hot. Premises were clean and airy. Service was reasonably quick.

Small tea room on the main street serving delicious home made food on vintage crockery. The owner and her sister are very friendly and provide a warm welcome. We each had a big bowl soup and lovely bread for a late lunch. Our tea ( they had loads of different ones) came in individual china pots with proper china cups and saucers, all intentionally mismatched but so pretty. We were so tempted by the cakes but not being sure how the rest of the day would pan out we resisted in case we needed a stop later. Thoroughly recommend this quirky tea room.

For the past 18 months Molly and I have enjoyed regular afternoon tea and cakes at the Tearoom. Molly loves to sit outside, enjoying her afternoon tea and watch the world go by. However what makes the occasions so special is the kindness and warm welcome given by Terese and Tracy. We always look forward to seeing them and wish them every success. Thank you, from Terry and Molly.

We live locally and have started to visit this tea room regularly the two sisters that run it are lovely. Nothing is too much trouble and their selection of sandwiches and cakes available are tasty and filling. All homemade! Try the scones / cream tea. You won’t be disappointed.

We visited this afternoon with our two children and received such a warm welcome. Both staff took the time to chat with the children asking about our day and provided a high chair for the little one... the slices of cake were very generous and tasted delicious and they even provided a doggy bag for the bit we couldn’t finish! Such a lovely team...

A great place for an Afternoon Tea. Excellent service, homely environment and LOADS to eat. Sandwiches freshly made, cakes freshly baked, as much tea as you can put away. Interaction with the proprietor and her willing assistant made this visit a joyful occasion. Closed Tuesday and Sunday

We were told we should visit as this was a lovely place and that was the best of advice for a long time. It isn't all crammed in and a squeeze to sit down which is top priority for me. There's lots of things to look at, toys for children to play with and bowls outside for any dogs. There serive is warm and friendly as if you've known then for ages. It's a family business from the old days and everything is homemade to an exceptional standard. The scones were the best I've ever had (seriously)... so light!!! I could have just sat in there all day drinking tea and watching the world go by and I'd use it all the time if I lived round here. Took me back to before life got so hectic. Lovely and thanks again.

Love this place so much. If we lived closer we'd be in there every day. Afternoon tea is best ever, it's our favourite venue. Many thanks to Terese and Tracy who are so lovely and put themselves out to provide a happy environment and perfect food in beautiful surroundings.

What a little gem family run so friendly & delicious wholesome food. This tea shop made our visit to Long Melford. We had savoury first but I had the most delicious Russian honey cake & husband coconut Victoria sponge. Old china tea pots etc. We were permitted to take our young spaniel inside so pleased to find it was well behaved dog friendly too( biscuit water bowl). The two lovely ladies who run the shop genuinely enjoy their work. Thank you we will definitely come back. As we drove home we still were discussing the tea shop was the best part of our visit.
