Review Bull Hotel Restaurant - Long Melford

Me and my partner stayed here for my birthday weekend and loved it. We stayed for two nights in the hotel and the room was lovely, comfortable bed and very clean inside the room. Had an evening meal each night and we both enjoyed the food, the service was great as well. Breakfast was very nice, they have a good selection to choose from and again the service was great. There was an issue with the heating one of the mornings but the staff dealt with the problem and kept customers up to date. Special mention to John and Sarah, made us feel very welcome and went above and beyond customer service. Would definitely like to stay here again and recommend to anyone to stay here.

Fascinating old half-timbered inn, the epitome of an English country pub. I had Sunday lunch in the bar. The staff were very friendly and the service was very quick. My only reason not to award it five stars is that the vegetables were a bit tired by the time I was eating (just before 3pm on a Sunday). It was good, but not the best I've ever had. Well worth a visit, but maybe don't leave it too late to dine at lunchtime.

My partner and I stayed here for a night and it was amazing. The rooms are fitting to the location, the bed was very comfy and the room/bathroom was very clean. We had dinner that night and the food was amazing, service was outstanding. Overall the price of the stay and food/drink was reasonable for the standard of what you receive and the location too. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

We have just had an amazing couple of days with Jake our dog who was made very welcome. Gary, Julie and the whole team were friendly and professional. The food was excellent would definitely come again.

Spent New Years Eve here, with friends. Just love this historic, wonky old hotel. Great food, live music and lovely, well-appointed rooms. Service marked down, just because they were short staffed and both the evening meal and breakfast, took an age to come out! Not the staffs fault. They were apologetic and worked their backsides off! A great night was had.

Apart from a minor issue at check-in where we'd been allocated a twin room rather than the double we'd pre-booked* we've just returned from another wonderful stay at The Bull in Long Melford. As usual the room was excellent, toasty warm and spotlessly clean and all the staff at the hotel were very polite and friendly. Our rate included breakfast and the 2nd morning we went without the Full English option as the sausages and bacon weren't to our taste (but never have been). We did try them on the 1st morning as it's a while since we've been but sadly they haven't improved. This wasn't an issue as the sour dough toast we had on the 2nd morning was absolutely delicious and I can thoroughly recommend it. * Resolving the issue was a little more problematic than I expected but I guess it can be difficult when the check in gentleman was having to deal with a central, corporate booking system. Ultimately though it was resolved and didn't have a negative impact on our delightful stay at The Bull, nor will it stop us returning as it is a terrific hotel with delightful, very clean rooms and is staffed by wonderful people. 10/10 again. 👍

Hi, I stayed at the Bull mon 26 feb/tue 27 Feb. The welcome from reception was outstanding. My room was immaculate and worth every penny. This pub is managed superbly and every single member of staff is an absolute asset to GK. I can’t wait to visit again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for an amazing stat, warmest regards Anna Hamilton

We had Sunday lunch at The Bull. Staff were excellent. Service was a bit slow. The food was good but my only real criticism is the Seasonal Vegetables mentioned on the menu consisted of half a roasted carrot and one stalk of brocoli !

Good puddings....and nice atmosphere and staff..especially noticeable as we had tried to eat in another local venue...which came nowhere near the Bulls standard of friendliness.

The hotel was exactly as we expected it to be! A beautiful old building with original features! Old fireplaces and antiques and modern furniture blended perfectly together! A very warm welcoming feel with such lovely staff in all areas! We had a superior room overlooking the front of the hotel. There was a massive comfortable super king bed with a large sofa and antique coffee table. There was a massive flatscreen tv wall mounted with more chairs as the room was huge! The bathroom was quite large with a powerful shower over the bath! Large fluffy white towels on a heated towel rack! Lovely smelling toiletries supplied - shower gel/shampoo and hand soap provided! In the room there was a hairdryer, iron/ironing board, safe, kettle with tea/coffee making facilities with biscuits! Ample hanging space in an antique fitted wardrobe! As we entered the room the lovely smell of proper wax polish greeted us as was the room spotlessly clean! Lindy and Sally , 7 had obviously taken pride in preparing the room for us leaving a number to call if we needed anything extra! All the waiting staff were very friendly and accommodating! As it is a Greene King pub the choice of drinks and food was as expected with a great choice and very reasonably priced! We had dinner in our room one of the nights and the Sunday roast dinner in the restaurant the following day which very enjoyable! Breakfast was a Buffett with juice/tea/coffee cereal pastries fruit yoghurts and toast with choice of milks plus also included was a choice of hot food from a great breakfast menu! The staff went out of their way to make sure everyone was greeted very promptly and professionally! The area of Long Melford and the location of the Bull was perfect for leaving the car and going on long walks in the countryside or mooching along the high street looking at the many antique shops and many tea rooms! Not to mention the historical churches!! I can not recommend this lovely traditional olde English Inn more highly! We will definitely be back!

I was one of the very many party goers who celebrated their business annual Christmas get together at The Bull Hotel this year. Catering for so many is a challenge, one which the staff rose to admirably. Would have been five stars except that sprouts were an incongruous accompaniment to Sea Bass and the pastry of the lemon tart was a challenge too far!

We had our wedding at the bull on 29th December 2023. It was a big affair and Gary the manager and team were amazing from start to finish. Helpful friendly knowledgable and they made it all so relaxed. The package for weddings is amazing! So much catered for. All our guests absolutely loved the canapés wedding breakfast and evening Buffett. Well done chefs! Finally Christmas at the bull is magical with all the amazing decorations and lights completed by Sue. It certainly enhanced our overall decor and magical day. Thank you all so very much for making our day so special. Xxxxx

The Bull is full of character, with lots of history nestled in the heart of melford. Nice time to visit is in autumn/ winter, when they have the open fire place going. It's a busy pub, with lots of visitors from all over. Nice food and seating area. The staff are always freindly. We'll worth a visit.

We visited the bull for a Sunday lunch with my family. Food was lovely. They were very busy as had two private parties so we were advised that would be a longer wait for food. But the food was with the wait. Service was good. So we will visiting again in the near future.

Surprise visit as we were planning to go somewhere else but that was closed. Incredible interior and great service. We expected a standard Greene king pub but that was everything but standard.

We've been going to The Bull for the last 15 years, sometimes to stay, sometimes for a meal. Whenever we have gone we have always had a lovely time. The staff are always friendly and very helpful. We have never been disappointed with the food, even off the cheaper menu. We won't go anywhere else for a meal for our special anniversaries. We would highly recommend The Bull. Long Melford

Lovely hotel, staff were very accommodating and the food was great! We had afternoon tea and dinner and breakfast and all tasty! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the room was really warm! It was a hot day but it was still a bit too hot during the night!! I would definitely recommend!

We had a two night stay. Our room was fine, nice big bathroom. The staff were so very friendly and very pleasant. We dined in both nights and the food was good. The breakfasts are amazing, so much to choose from. Definitely recommend . The hotel is beautiful, full of old worldly charm. Long Melford itself is such a lovely place. Well worth a visit.

Lovely place, lovely staff, lovely room, great dinner, poor breakfast, four out of five ain't bad, and bearing in mind how reasonable the price was maybe I should have given a 5 star rating..Will definitely be back.

My wife and I happened upon The Bull by chance as were only passing through, what a great place! We had lunch and drinks. Staff are really friendly and what a great old building. Definitely recommend going there.

£30 for a bit of melon and sorbet, half a chicken breast, 2 dried out roast potatoes and a ridiculously undercooked chipolata wrapped in bacon with 10ml of cold gravy and a diabetic portion of cheesecake which we had to ask for because they thought we'd had it...Rip off!!! Barmen asking if I had any single mates was a bit unprofessional too! Never again.

Stayed at The Bull for 1 night as was working in the local area. The hotel is full of character and original features. The rooms are comfortable, tastefully decorated and although furniture is old, it is very much in keeping with the age of the building. The restaurant food is excellent and very good value for money. Breakfast was lovely with cold buffet items and a hot menu which is cooked to order. The staff are all friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Would have no qualms in recommending this place.

Popped in for a drink and a light lunch There was a wedding just about to take place which was lovely however that barman was quite rude & abrupt so we left after having a drink then went somewhere else for lunch

We stayed here for 1 night for a wedding, the staff were very friendly & Sally was very helpful in arranging cabs too & from our venue. The bed was very comfortable although the room was very warm (that's why i gave it a 4) and the bathroom definitely needs updating with a white powder like stuff all round the edges of the bathroom. Although the room was a little sparse it would have been nice to have things like a box of tissues in room. We had full english breakfast which was very nice & the young man who served us was very pleasant x

We have been before and was looking forward to coming, but i have to say i felt rather dissapointed. I paid the extra for a better room. Which was above the function room who were having a party till midnight there was no warning or appoligies in the morning and we could hear the music word for word. When we went down for our tea only the bar was open in a small room all the tables were reseved and the restraunt was closed. We were told if we were quick we could have a table but must be finished in an hour. Then ppl from the function room sll piled in to and knocked into my partner while we were eating. Other than that the building is beautifull and the actual room was spacious and clean.

Absolutely fabulous meal last evening. Enjoyed Duo of Lamb, absolutely tasty, and a mixed grill for my other half. Love this place, home cooked food at its best. Will be back again soon. Warm atmosphere, excellent food, and lovely service; what more could you want. Will be back again soon.
