Picked a lovely day for it ! The sun was out and it was just wonderful sitting out on the river along with 50 or 60 others? There were two or three tall sailing boats moored up as well which made it even more special . The beer was lovely ! My favourite beer called broadside and food was excellent. All for £35 for two with drinks . Can’t be bad ! The only downmark is for the barman who really didn’t want to be there . But we all have off days . So thumbs up to this place ! Oh parking is tricky , but there are pay and displays five minutes away if none of the six or so spots outside the pub are available
Tasty + crispy fried squid appetiser, and the main with a freshly cooked pan-fried sea bass. Though the skin was not crispy, it was a good taste. (Side dish of ratatouille wasn’t good though)
Strolling along on a drizzley Tuesday afternoon,not really knowing where we're going or whats ahead,The Queen's Head appears. Quick scan of the menu and we were in. And once IN,well,what a gem of a place. Super room,great,friendly staff and AMAZING food. Fish and chips to walk in the rain for. Finished our drinks on the outside,estuary side area,again,really enjoyable even in the grey drab of 'august'. Wanna come back when the sun is beaming and the pub is hopping. Keep it up guys!!
The Warm Cheese & Bacon Salad is absolutely to die for. The perfect treat after a lovely quayside walk!
Have eaten here a few times. Excellent food and great cask beer. Staff attentive, nothing to complain about. Add to that great views across the river.
You'd think being a busy crowded pub the food would be a bit average, but you'd be wrong. The haddock was superb, light crisp batter encasing perfectly cooked fluffy white fish. The chips were spot on too.
They have a good selection of beers and the service is rapid and friendly.
Definitely worth seeking out, especially when you can sit in the sunshine with a delightful view of the river and Thames barges. A perfect place to enjoy the last of the summer sun.
We visit this Pub many times each year for both Lunch and Evening meals with friends and family.
Very good food and large portions. Good selection of drinks and they're very friendly staff. Very consistent quality of service given we've been coking here for many years and it's quality is always maintained to a high standard.
Great location views, sat outside in the amazing weather - no wait for a table, only a short wait to order food at the bar.
I was told the food would be a 30 minute wait before ordering, but it was actually lea than that in the end. Fair selection of food & reasonably priced too.
I've lived in Maldon 24 years but never been before because it always looks too packed - but with enough space & staff it didn't feel that busy - will definitely be back again.
Went here for lunch one weekend in October. Was tempted by one of the previous reviewers who, to quote, said 'the fish and chips and ale pie were banging'.
Well, they certainly were! Best fish and chips we'd had for some time. The other meals we ordered were also as good.
Lots of outside seating here. Quite cozy inside. Staff were very nice and helpful.
Would certainly recommend if in Maldon looking for a good meal.
Good range of cask ales kept in peak condition. Substantial plain fare expertly cooked. Attentive & friendly waiting staff supported by plenty of bar staff. Lovely seating areas overlooking the river & child friendly. A great place to spend time & watch the world go by.
