The Library. Speakeasy Bar

This bar is fantastic: a real asset to Malton. The staff are also incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The kind of place you dream going to have a few relaxing drinks. The snacks are good (although I always think there’s potential for charcuterie/cheese - I only say this so I can stay and drink for longer). This bar also stocks artisan non-alcoholic beer: again, a real bonus. I would recommend this place to everyone. Between the drinks, the staff and the atmosphere, it’s hard to find another venue in Malton that can compete. You’ll never be disappointed here.

We have visited the Library a few times and what a lovely place it is. When the market is busy it is like an oasis away from the noise and hustle bustle. The team (James on this occasion) is attentive to your needs and a superb choice of spirits ensure you will get the best drinks available. We shall be back again and again 👍

A superb little bar found in the picturesque town of Malton. With a real rustic and homely feel to it from the moment you walk in, this is the idea place to enjoy some drinks with friends on an evening. The staff are helpful, courteous and knowledgeable about the range of different beverages on offer, including a wide range of speciality gins and whiskeys. You will most certainly not be disappointed should you give this place out for yourself.

Little hidden gem, one of our go to shops for the unusual present, or treat yourself. The shop has a varied selections of Whiskeys for the connoisseurs, wines & Gin’s..the owners Jim & James have a great knowledge and very helpful. It’s got a perfect quaint bar with it’s own hidden doorway, to relax and unwind with friends. Well worth a visit highly recommend.

An amazing secret bar!, hidden within McMillans in Malton, James and Jim have created a fantastic little gem of a bar in the heart of Malton, with a great selection drinks, wines and whiskey! I especially like the little attic room I could sit there all night, it’s a great place to meet, super cosy and decorated amazingly throughout the building, it has so much charm and character. I’d definitely recommend a visit *****

The Library is one of those places that's so good you have to carefully decide if you really want everyone else to know about it or should it just remain a closely guarded secret. The atmosphere is what I can imagine a Prohibition era speakeasy would have been and this is only enhanced by the need to know which book on the shelf will open the hidden front door! Once you make it inside the staff are amazing, both friendly and knowledgable about the wide range of quality drinks on offer. Along the back wall you'll notice neatly presented 'lockers' that are owned by a select few to store drinks bought from the equally excellent whisky shop downstairs and further enhancing the slightly illicit feel of the place. Needless to say I strongly recommend you take the time to check out The Library - just don't tell anyone else about it.
