Tongtara Thai Restaurant

We ordered the Duck Red Curry and Tom Yum Soup. The duck red curry has an interesting medly of green grapes, lychee and pineapples which gives a fruity sweetness to the mildly spicy curry. Contrary to the name, the red curry is actually creamy and scrumptious. A must-order for me. The Thai Tom Yum was authentic and not watered down, with loads of spices and generous serving of prawns and mushrooms. Will visit again if in the area.

Pretty spicy. Nice spot. Attentive service. Price is reasonable. Got a windrow seat and waitress took order promptly. Entrée arrived quickly and was tasty and enough to share. I ordered Thai hot and the waitress Das careful to check that I actually meant hot. It was hot and not overpowering. Overall a pet good meal.

This is the best Thai food and restaurant in Nelson and I would go as far to say the best we have tasted in New Zealand. Great subtle flavours in every dish and clearly fresh ingredients carefully prepped. The service was friendly and efficient. We were here on a cold winters night and it was warm and welcoming from the minute you stepped through the door. As we are locals, this is now our go to restaurant for Thai food.

This is the first time we have dined here. The table really was not big enough to fit glasses, extra drinks and our dishes. The food was good, the lamb Shanks were falling of the bone!! The sauce was a bit to sweet. The beef in the red curry was a little chewy... but loved the bamboo and Mini corn!! Appetizers were ok... nothing really stood out. Not a fan of the soup. What did stand out... is the service!! The staff was very professional and friendly. The service was outstanding... and many restaurants could learn from Tongtara Thai. Thank you.

Everything was Fantastic ! A cool rainy grey early evening ... Nice and warm and cosy inside with relaxing chilled music playing in the background. Great friendly attentive service. We ordered a mix of entree's that couldn't be faulted. . Fish Cakes, mini pork ribs, melt in your mouth lemon salt pepper calamari, chicken nibbles... then a main to share of "Chef's Special " spicy crispy crumbed chicken and fried rice ... Absolutely Delicious! And I Loved having Chard Farm Chardonnay : ) Thank You for a beautiful dinner !
