My partner and I had been told about Snackwallah which is a vegetarian/vegan Indian Streetfood location in the Grainger Market. We had two different dishes and they were really tasty and not too hot. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were delighted with our whole experience. If you want an authentic tasting Indian meal at a very reasonable price, in the centre of Newcastle then this is it. Neither of us is vegeterian but this did not make any difference to our enjoyment of very nice meal. Thoroughly recommend the place.

The best chaat I had in a long time since I came to UK. I was a bit skeptical about how it might be as I have been disappointed alot before by other restaurants. But the Bhel puri reminded me of my home town and the staff were so lovely. I will definitely go back there again. :)

I really cannot stress how excellent the food is here. The bhaji wrap is super chunky and filling with deliciously spiced homemade bhajis, the daily curry is excellent value at £5 for curry, daal, rice, naan (with a proper spice kick to it)! The hot samosa chaat is also gorgeous. Snackwallah is the first place I show people who are new to Newcastle, amazing food with the loveliest owners! I'm also pretty sure they pay their staff a real living wage and use environmentally friendly, so to those complaining about prices (which I personally think are incredibly reasonable) - you get what you pay for!! Please don't ever change Snackwallah, I love you!! Pictured is the daily curry (which is a fiver for all that!) and the classic samosa chaat.

We've visited a few times now and every time we've had amazing food. We're not vegans but everything is suitable for vegans so it's worth a visit for everyone. The food is fresh, tasty and so cheap. We'll definitely go back again.

Visited here today and was not disappointed. Very well looked after and was offered refills a number of times. So tasty, wonderful food.

Waited ages, total chaos and disorganized service. Friendly staff and owners but portion sizes were tiny and over priced, having shot up over the last year! Would not recommend at all.

I went in for lunch as I was in the area. The food was a good price and really tasty. I've been before and tried several things from the menu. All of them have been tasty and good prices. The service is nice and friendly.

Fabulous lunchtime food. Just what was needed after travelling over 200 miles for an annual visit to Newcastle. Even if you are not vegan this food is gorgeous. Sometimes, as vegans, we struggle to find delicious, tasty & satisfying food. If you are vegan and live/work in Newcastle and you love the tastes of India then this is the place I would urge you to try. The curry available on the day I visited was a really tasty aubergine curry with daal, rice & flatbread. And a banana lassi. Yum.

So visited today to see they just keep upping the prices baji wrap was £2.50 on the website now its £4 cant understand why it nearly doubled in value its not like wages are doubling isit.... also the maharaja banquet online is £5.50 and is now instore £7 up £1.50 which amounts to about 20% rise in cost wont be long until everything on the menu is £5 at least and the maharaja banquet is looking like £10......

Can't comment on authenticity, but it was really tasty, especially given the amount of food they manage to produce in a small stall. We haven't had barfi either since before we were vegan but this was great as well! Obviously not identical to regular, dairy barfi but it was a pretty good replacement; my partner (who's British Pakistani) loved it too, as did our toddler! Lovely owners too, thanks so much.

Was very excited to try the Indian street food snacks they have on their menu(I am indian & love to find new places where I can find home comforts), I got a mixed platter & was sadly disappointed unfortunately 😩 Chana chaat was freezing cold which wasn’t good on the pallet & the spices didn’t come through at all, pani puri didn’t have any “pani” in and tasted nothing like something you’d get in india & bhelpuri was also lacking lots of elements. So was a disappointing visit for me personally, but with a bit more research I think they have potential.

Incredible selection, entirely vegan, very conscious of environment & extremely good quality. So cheap as well!

Having visited the Grainger Market for the first time in years I was overwhelmed by the choice available from all around the globe. I chose Snackwallah and oh my good god what a decision that was! Two of us ate an ample late breakfast / early lunch for fifteen quid. As a self confessed carnivore there is always an amount of trepidation with choosing a vegan establishment, however my concerns were totally unfounded and the black bean curry was the best curry I have ever had! The layers and complexity of the flavours was an absolute triumph and a beauty to behold. The platter was a delight to sample all of the available delicacies, many of which are similar to chickpea salads with a variety of veg and spice. The chai tea was excellent! The only, extremely minor criticism is the plates which are disposable, it just feels like a waste and unnecessary compared to reusable cutlery etc, but this is being extremely nit picky! Do yourself a favour and visit this gem! You will not regret it!

Hungry people of Newcastle, your search is over because will not find a more authentic or better tasting Indian Cusine anywhere in the North East. Nothing here is doctored for the English pallet, it's exactly as it should be. Highly recommend the chick pea curry and behl puri both were absolutely delicious. Wanted to try this place since it opened and finally got around to going today. If you want to know where to get great food - ask a fat lad. Like me :-) No photos as my plates were empty - far too good to leave anything!
