Favourite restaurant in Newcastle. I have been going to Simla for a couple of years now, and have taken both my family and friends. The food is fantastic, particular favourites being the chilli garlic chicken (starter) and peshwari naan. Service has always been friendly and excellent, and the restaurant itself has a classy, but relaxed, vibe to it. I would highly recommend it to both people who love Indian cuisine, and those who are not as well acquainted with it. I will definitely be back soon.

UNBELIEVABLE VALUE FOR MONEY. We have visited Simla once before and it was exceptionally good all round. Visiting this time we knew it was restaurant week so we’re not expecting it to be quite as good as last time. How wrong were we! 3 courses for £15 and the food was just as exceptional as it was when we previously visited. The staff were extremely friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. This is by far the best Indian restaurant Newcastle has to offer but it comes with a fine dining twist. Brilliant restaurant, must be visited to be appreciated.

Down on the Quayside on a Wednesday evening in January The Simla Restaurant looked good through the window so two of us went inside and were quickly given a table and made welcome by Abdul and the staff. A Chicken Steamer Curry, some Aloo Matar Gobi, Bengali Channa and Palak Paneer together with a naan bread and basmati rice provided a carefully cooked and tasty meal at a good price. Abdul was also happy to indulge my efforts at conversational Hindi/Urdu as I am planning a trip to the sub-continent sometime soon. So it’s Shukriya ( thank you) from me and a rating of Bohut Achaa (very good) W.

We had the most fantastic end to our trip in Newcastle thanks to Abdul and the other fab staff at Simla. We both had one of the best meals of our lives, and I have to point out how well I was treated and catered for as a vegan. Most of the veggie dishes are or can be made vegan friendly and the Dal tarka I had last night is honestly one of the best meals I've ever had - such delicate and well balanced flavours. Abdul took extra trouble to reassure me that everything had been cooked and prepared to be vegan friendly. They are really passionate about catering to the vegan community so I would highly recommend it to any veggies and vegans out there. My fiance also loved his lamb shank Rogan Josh - it was lovely to eat together somewhere that catered so well for both of us. Thank you so much. Next time we are in Newcastle we will be back - this place really is a little hidden gem!

Popped in to book a table for 10pm on a Wednesday evening, very pleasant chap booked us in as we asked. Had the lamb chops which were very tasty and the Massala fish both for a starters, along with popudoms and pickle tray ~(although we had to ask for onion and lime pickle) which was not a problem for them. Couple of currys, rice and keema naan later, both excellent. Calypso coffee followed. Accidentally gave a tip of £100, which they spotted and refunding immediately Mints, a bounty and a Ripple for on the way home from Abdul Thanks

Only £15 for a three course meal but still same portion size and as good quality as the usual menu. Very good food and service, would recommend!

Went to Simla whilst on business, I had the lamb shank and it was absolutely delicious. The meat was tender, well marinated, and the sauce was fresh and beautifully flavoured. I would definitely recommend Simla, and especially the lamb shank! Thank you!

This place is definitely the best Indian food in Newcastle, and probably also the best restaurant overall too. The food is excellent- we get different dishes each time we go and every single one is perfect. The service matches. We've even been able to turn up without reservations from time to time and they'll always do their best to accommodate, even if the restaurant is full.

We've been to Simla twice now, once two years ago and once last week. Both times the service has been impeccable, the best I've second to none. The food is also the best I've tasted, they made me my dhansak even though it wasn't on the menu. We will definitely be back.

A great mid priced restaurant. Excellent service! Good food. Not fine dining but very definitely several steps above your usual curry house in all aspects. Good value for the high quality too.

We booked a table for 2 at SIMLA having noticed that it was number four on trip advisor, it should be number one! Between the starter and the after-meal Baileys the dishes were timed to perfection. Friendly staff made the evening flow but the spectacular food won our hearts. Will be back in no time! X

So. No.1 on Tripadvisor? Not the usual curry house. smart interior. Small menu with things on you don't see elsewhere. Had lobster to start. £16, but I wasn't paying. Really good. I can't remember the name of my main. It was an odd name that looked like a random selection of scrabble letters. There were prawns in it and it was delicious. was part of a party of 10- everyone was really happy with the food and service. Hats off to our server, Ingrid - she was great. In fact they all were. This place has earned it's place as No.1 and it's you can see why.
