I have been dining at the White Horse tavern for years, and it's a lovely experience. We drove down from Boston to Newport on a whim, and were thrilled that we could get in at lunch. It's the real thing, captures the colonial vibe of Newport because it's authentic. That said, the food is fresh, delicious and beautifully plated. Service was expert, we had a wonderful lunch. My lobster salad BLT was delicious. The side salad was farm fresh, as promised. Great place.

The food and ambiance was good in The White Horse Tavern. We had lunch here while visiting Newport. I had the lobster bisque and the Chop salad with Lobster both excellent. My husband has the small seafood sampler and the Lump crab cake and he loves it too. It’s not cheap but the quality was excellent.

Absolutely love this place! The filet mignon and lobster mac and cheese were divine! We asked for a table by the fireplace and the ambiance was awesome! Drinks and service equally as good. Highly recommend and would come back

We had dinner here last night for our 2 year anniversary and this place exceeded my high expectations. We were seated on the top floor in a little room next to the window, the ambiance is very romantic and cozy because of the location, lighting, and music. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. I have never had clam chowder in a broth before, I thought it was very good. My boyfriend had never tried beef Wellington before and he LOVED it! I got the ricotta cavatelli with meatballs and it was unreal. They even gave us a free glass of complimentary champagne at the end of our meal. I am just blown away. Service was a 10, food was a 10, experience was 30/10. When we left we already talked about going back. I highly recommend for an anniversary or special occasion. One of the best dining experiences I have had.

The best colonial dining experience. We sat next to a large fire in a charming dining room. Cocktails were fantastic and had seasonal options. The starter options are excellent, charcuterie, oysters, chowder, shrimp, and so many more. I loved the oysters and shrimp, fresh and clean. My beef wellington was superb! Paired with wine, they have several options by the glass. The dessert menu had many delicious options, they were out of what I wanted though. Guess I knew what was good! Port and sherry, always a fine way to end a meal.

If you are looking for great food and tavern experience from colonial times it’s tough to find a better place. We had the beef Wellington and the Duck. The duck may have been the best I have had, the slices were thick and it had great flavor without too much skin. The photos are dark as the lighting is mostly candle light. Service was excellent, quick and efficient. Make reservations and enjoy a special treat.

Expectations were high for this spot as it has a rich history of being the first tavern in the U.S. and is thought to be a spot where George Washington enjoyed some brews. However, the ambience was unimpressive and minimalistic, the food was average (didn't expect that as the average entree is $30). I wouldn't go back as I was disappointed. Seared scallops were tasty but the lobster macaroni came cold as if it had been reheated.

Our waitress Jo was a pleasant and very helpful young woman. Really liked her and the food. Well. It was just amazing. Best pan seared chicken I have ever had. Very moist and full of flavor. The Reuben Cuban was delicious. I would definitely recommend and visit again. It's worth a try. Interesting history Also. Very cool
