Red Parrot Restaurant

The Red Parrot Restaurant in scenic Newport, RI offers visitors some typical food at seaside prices. The service was awful. It took forever for a server to come over to our table. The French onion soup was bland and lukewarm. Maybe a half a pound of cheese on top too. Also the fried calamari was rubbery and cold. My wife ordered the mussels and clam soup which was unreal! My only complaint with this dish is that only give you 1 small crostini. You'll need at least 3 to help finish this bowl of deliciousness.

I had the lobster nachos and lobster roll. OMG! Those nachos were like anything I’ve tried in my life. The sauce was very flavorful and had chunks of lobster in the top. For sure, it was the star of the dinner. I’d drive to Newport at any time just to have those nachos again. I really recommend it. Loved it!

I’d like to preface this review with the fact that I’ve been to Red Parrot one other time and I loved it (the drinks and service were fantastic). This afternoon, I decided to bring a few friends visiting Newport for the first time, and had been talking up Red Parrot. 2 of us stopped in for a few drinks (as we were waiting for the 2 others that were shopping to join us), and told the hostess there would be 4 of us. We were told there would be a 25 minute wait - no problem! The hostess gave us a buzzer and we walked out. When it was time for us to be seated, we came back, and she promptly told us that the entire party needed to be at the bar to be seated. Wish she had told us that up front, but again, not a big deal. The other 2 were at a shop next door so I told her I was going to call and have them come right over. While on the phone (less than 20 seconds) she gave the table to another party. She then told us she wasn’t sure when another table would be available, and told us we needed to leave and wait outside. Very poor customer service, in a time that restaurants & bars should be doing everything they can to keep loyal customers. Hope the hostess is provided with better training.

I go here quite regularly but just ordered their Sesame Sticky Wings. They were amazing. I could have this as a meal along with a side salad. I have been happy with every dish I have ordered. Their Tuxedo Tuna is also delicious. On top of that, Kelsey was awesome! She was knowledgeable, efficient, and very personable. I would ask for her again when I return.

The food is amazing and the portions are plentiful. The staff was friendly. Our waitress Kelsey was great. Try the Lobster Nachos. You won't be disappointed! The Jerk wings we seasoned perfectly (dry rubbed with herbs and spices). The Coconut Chicken wrap was delicious! My husband loved the Calamari Pizza. Our eyes were much bigger than our stomach but it allowed us to have yummy leftovers!

Great food but poor service. Have ordered curbside pickup here (the same item, the calamari) four times and gotten four different expe riences. The first order was perfect which made me order again ! The remaining three times I ordered I was given the Calamari without any of the peppers (which you specify while ordering since they have more than one style of Calamari on their menu) and twice without the marinara sauce. It may seem like no big deal but when you're getting curbside pickup on your lunch break and have to wait for them to fix your food it's extremely inconvenient. I would definitely recommend dining in here because the food is great and I'm sure mistakes would be fixed promptly but I do not recommend take out at this location because I only order one item and they don't get it right!

Our unfortunate experience being turned away by the rude female host of Midtown Oyster Bar on Aug. 29th Saturday at 1PM turned out to be the best silver lining. We walked across The Red Parrot Restaurant where there were no reservations required (read: inclusive) and the host was welcoming and immediately gave us an excellent table on the 2nd floor. Dan attended to us and couldn't have been the most hardworking and warmest despite attending to full tables. We ordered calamari, lobster mac & cheese, scallop & shrimp scampi linguini & lobster pizza alongside glasses of La Marca Prosecco. Agreed that everything tasted so delicious and that portions were generous and gives great value for money. Our absolute favorite was the Lobster Mac & Cheese though! Every now and then you'll see a restaurant with this dish in their menu. Only a few are able to really execute it well. The Red Parrot is one of those. My absolute highest recommendation. ♥️

This place is so good. They make very strong drinks, which I feel is rare nowadays. But beyond that the cocktails are very well made. Lobster nachos must order dish. Steamers also excellent, 2-lb serving size so very generous. In general hard to go wrong. their virtual menu also has ratings built into it so you can see what other people think. Excellent distancing up tables so even in restaurant dining feels very safe.
