Lovely old pub in the centre of Newport, went in looking for something small for lunch. Friendly, quiet and dogs allowed. Lovely courgette soup and the yummiest cheesy chips - cheese all the way through and crispy fluffy chips. Plenty of other options on the menu with a selection for gluten free, vegetarian and vegan. Would go again.
Service here was really good seeing as there was only a couple of lady’s behind the bar. Seemed to do good and drink. Food came out quickly and was really good
Well if you appreciate a historic pub kept as it should be with the booths, fireplace, this is a good choice.
I went on a Friday when they were having a stake meal night and I enjoyed it, would go again.

I live 5 minutes away from the castle and today we Went here for the first time and I wish we had gone sooner. The food was so delicious and well worth the money. The staff where so friendly. Think we have found are favourite local place to eat. Highly recommend.
This was my first visit since the new owners took over. My wife and I were going to try the taster valentines menu. We were expecting 7 tiny courses and a need for McDonalds afterwards. We got 7 very well balanced and prepared courses that were large enough to satisfy us - and we are big eaters. Every course was perfect and the staff couldn't have been better.. attentive yes unobtrusive and working well as a team. They didn't get anything wrong even though it was getting very busy. We didn't go to McDonalds... we had a simply amazing evening.
Nice old pub, food is good, staff friendly, quite busy even I early afternoon.

Warm and welcoming pub with great service from the staff. The food was delicious and fresh. Highly recommend.
Very friendly reception, booked last minute. Six of us, we all enjoyed our food. Had to park in the long stay carpark and walk just a short distance.
Okay. Food service was a bit on the slow side. Menu could do with a change as the current one has been the same for years. Good place for group meals but reserve tables.
We visit here every summer in our holidays... Excellent food, lovely pub! All staff are welcoming and friendly and top service!
