West Cornwall Pastry Co. - Oxford, England. One of the known establishments in England, this one has particular focus with a specialty. Cornish pastries being a big deal in the United Kingdom, it only makes sense for it to be sold. There are plenty of more modern options amongst the traditional kind to show just how far Brittan has come with its food in recent years. A couple of outlets exist in Oxford, including one at the train station.
My brother-in-law and I were running late for a train, and one was coming in a few minutes thus he decided to get something for breakfast (sleeping in made having breakfast at the home base not viable). Throughout the breakfast hours, there is a breakfast option for a coffee and bacon butti deal. He got one, and I managed to have a sample of it.
There was not a lot of complexity to the bacon butti. It is essentially bacon in a white roll; the sauce of choice was mayonnaise. From childhood, this was one of my favourite snacks; there was no nostalgic bias as it was just as good as I remembered it. The bacon used was slightly thick, and there was a slightly smokey flavour in the flesh. It was on a roll that was soft and moist, all of it combining into a good little snack on the run.
It only makes sense nowadays to have it with a coffee. With the cappuccino, it was served boiling hot, which made it hard to drink immediately after purchase. It needed to cool down before it was possible to drink it. After a while, the flavour actually got not too bad and more reminiscent of a filter coffee. Still, for an espresso-based coffee it was too hot even after the requests that it was hot enough.
It might be best to critique it on what the name of the place is - the classical (or more modern) Cornish pastry. With a freshly prepared street food mindset, there is a chance I just might.
Most delicious pasties, much better than the shop round the corner!
