First time in Portsmouth, and just came across this cafe by taking a wrong turn and walking down Castle Road on my way to catch the Coach.
This cafe is situated on a road with other amazing independent shops, including a few antique and quirky bric shops. When I got there I was ten mins too early plus I had half an hour to kill before I had to leave. I had a look at the menu and I was quite impressed.
I dont like pie but I like music and I like quirky and strange and the names of the pies are so creative, named after band names or songs and there are also vegan pies and they also do cocktails and non alcoholic. And they also sell Vinyl and have events. AND it's a tiny space with lots of odd bits and music posters and film posters and dinosaurs and elephants and a piano.
I fell in love with this place as soon as I walked in. There was so much to see, all crammed into small places, a mish mash of everything and anything.
I ordered the Pink Floyd pie and was offered mash, Peas and gravy to go with it but I just had the gravy and had Coconut tea with oat milk (they have option). That pie was so perfect, best pie I've ever had and only liked. With chickpeas, mustard and beetroot, the pie had a bit of a purple tinge and it was all edible.
So much attention to detail in this place, the little timer I got, the little milk bottle, the various types of cutlery to choose from.
The music was great and everything felt right. The staff were very friendly and approachable.
I will definitely come here again when I have more time and eat more pie!
I love this place! So many gluten free, vegetarian and vegan pies. Absolutely delicious. It is my new favourite place to eat!
Hailing from London. Pie and mash is hard to come by outside of the capital but I really enjoyed their take on the 'cockney' cuisine. The shop is wonderful and show vinyl isn't dead! One of Southsea's finest businesses
Southsea’s Pie and Vinyl opened in 2012, one of the few new independent record shops to have opened in recent times. However, this is not just a record shop, it is also a pie and mash shop – and probably the only pie and record cafe in the UK. However, I could be wrong. I love Pie and Vinyl – quirky is the best way to describe it – and they are passionate about supporting local businesses (even the furniture is locally sourced). They sell new records, music posters, pies (both savoury and sweet) and vintage cordials. The decor is remin
We had a really lovely evening. Such a great place to be in while eating. Food was fabulous! I had one of the filo pies and would definitely be going back to try another!
Great combination of Cafe and Record Store. Wonderful staff and brilliant in store album launch gigs too.
Best place in Portsmouth!!! Best pies, best music, best staff! Totally recommend!!!! Amazing atmosphere and lovely people with great energy!!! 11/10🌟
One of my favourite places in Southsea, in fact it’s one of three reasons we moved here 8yrs ago. The pies are sensational, sitting on top of a pile of mustard mash and pease. However the price for pie and mash at nearly £12 is high so probably not coming here as often as we’d like.
It's been some time since I've eaten here but once again we were not disappointed. We didn't have long to wait throughout, and the pies were second to none. Home cooked, generous and delicious. We were completely full and satisfied! Friendly service and in an interesting setting. Definitely coming back!
Didn't eat but a great variety of food. The vinyl selection is a lot more challenging and varied that you will find in the major chain with three letters. Some expected finds.
Never been/ eaten anywhere like it! What an amazing little place. A great variety of pies whether your a meat eater, veggie or vegan. Pie combinations you’ve never thought of. After eating why not have a hunt around in their shop for a vinyl or two. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this unique experience!
What a brilliant concept, pies and vinyl. The shop has lots of vinyl stock plus other items such as t shirts, pictures etc. The owner was very friendly and the food smelt good. They sometimes have live music in the shop.
Cute little place with delicious pies, highly recommend!
I'm a little late in posting, but I visited a few weeks ago and decided on the Porksea Islander (my favourite!). Delicious pie with generous amount of gravy, minted mushy peas and mash. Very enjoyable! I was slightly put off by customers hovering waiting for a table, but I suppose it's only a small place. I am a quick eater, but some would feel rushed - especially if they'd only been sat down 10 minutes. And don't be so quick to swipe customers' plates 😅
