Life doesn't always go as planned. Our vacation was overshadowed by my husband's growing illness which culminated in my having to take him to the Emergency Room at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. This Emergency Room is efficiently operated by a very professional staff, from check-in to triage to diagnosis. And, on top of that, probably the best nurse ever, Sarah Pringle, picture below. Thank you to all the staff at the ER.

Long wait in ER is expected but that’s really anywhere. However I have received such good care here, nurses, doctors and staff were phenomenal at their job and never had me wait in a room for very long. They were quickly caring for my needs, and took all the right steps in making sure I was okay. They have given me instructions on where my follow up appointments are, and what I need to do. They cared so much about safety, privacy and most of all my health and well being. As a medical professional myself I was very impressed compared to any other hospitals I have been to. I have been receiving prompt phone calls to make appointments and all staff have been very sweet, kind, and most of all helpful in every aspect.

For active duty just know you can go to urgent care and other emergency rooms to avoid them.
This hospital my whole three years coming here to the emergency room has always been incredibly delayed, unorganized and creates an unsafe space for serious health concerns. I have watch them barely do their job, constantly speak incredibly rude to people who are there and the rooms are disgusting usually. I know it may be a lack of funding or people may have to work long hours but if you ever want to see a space where most the people here take their anger out on you, come here! You’re lucky if you get out in 4 hours because they take forever. Hospitals with less the staff and double the patients move faster. As I sat at the counter today they lost a patients entire sticker pad that has ALL their information on it. They have covid hold which is not an but for this place to be as packed as it usually is I’m usually sitting next to a stranger coughing up a storm. If they had wanted to create a space for covid health you’d think they’d actually space the chairs or try to work faster to have this not occur. Overall the whole ER department needs to be redone. I’m overjoyed I no longer have to receive care or put my health into the hands of these lazy, rude and careless human beings. (They aren’t all the same but for the most part a lot of them are)

This place has the best customer service by far!!! It was an hour drive but worth entire time spent here. We were treated with respect and the utmost attention. I am glad to have had the opportunity to receive care for my son here. Life is not given everyday treat people like you would your own loved ones. Thank you for giving my son this ❤️

My primary care doctor is located at the navy hospital! I have received exceptional care from him. Not saying who he is for patient doctor confidentiality. He is in the internal med clinic. All the doctors I have seen in this clinic before him have been awesome. He is very thorough and cares about his patients. The ER is in my opinion awesome. Last visit I took my son in for chest pains, the wait was long but the docs and nurses and staff were apologetic and did everything as fast as they could. The only draw back is the pharmacy. But all you have to do is ask to get your meds at a branch clinic of your choice and have the same done for your labs

4-5 hours to be seen at the ER. 3.5-4 hours to pick up medication at the pharmacy. This place is an insult to the patients. There is NOTHING emergency here. Staff is rude and unprofessional. Especially the front desk service. That black lady upfront is the real meaning of “horrible customer service “. It’s like they all hate their job and it’s the patients’ fault. You could be dying and they will let you wait for hours. Military personnel and their families deserve way better than this place. Came here for emergency at 08 am. It’s noon and still not seeing by a doctor. This place is a joke!

Being a part of a clinic is tough, being a part of a military clinic is tougher as it's a much larger group being served. I feel the NMCP has made great strides in making sure parent's & patient's needs are being met. While I've had some not-so-good experiences at the Peds clinic over the past 10 years, I'm very thankful that I've had more great experiences (hence the 4 rating). While it can be difficult to get an appointment exactly when I'd like it, I've had the same problem with outside civilian clinics. I've had very few instances of a provider not taking my concerns seriously over a 10 year period and I've had no problems getting a second opinion if I get a provider I don't feel confident with. That's a huge win for me. Overall, I would recommend the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth Pediatric Clinic to others.

Slow response to patient care, but quick response to employee's toxic drama. But what do you expect from this type of health care, lack of communication, timeliness, care. Despite having very high staff to low customer ratio! Staff doesn't follow the mandatory mask mandate to the facility with some either not wearing a mask while others where it below their chin like a diaper!
