Everything was perfect. Food, location, personnel. I’ve been a bit fussy with food, requesting alterations to the menu (no dressing, no oil) and they have acommodated all my requests! I’ll definitely go back there soon! Possibly when my diet is over, so I can enjoy all the healthy options they offer.

We had a lovely window seat to enjoy the pretty view. Staff very attentive and efficient, we didn't have to wait long for anything. Very well decorated with crisp white tablecloths!

Nothing beats the romantic appeal of having a meal by the riverside, especially in beautiful Richmond. The weather was perfect, warm summer evening with tasty food, relaxed atmosphere and watching sunset reflection on Thames river. I've had a very satisfying grilled chicken and avocado salad, along with good service buzzing around due to rapid customer gathering. The brasserie boasts some stylish, art deco interiors with bar as the centrepiece. Warmly recommended.

I was interested to try out Jackson Rye as I love American food. However I left feeling slightly empty. My market soup with pumpkin amd truffle was served innovatively in a little jug and separate bowl. However it was overly rich with truffle and overly seasoned too. A solid portion size however the main course chef's salad with chicken was not good value- a pathetic piece of fried chicken (not as described on the menu) with some burnt 'crispy kale' and soggy gem lettuce was not great for 12 pounds.

Having said this about the food, the decor, music and service was top notch.

We were invited to try the brunch menu at the recently opened Richmond Jackson + Rye. The company has been around in SOHO for a while but it was time to move to the country (or as close as you can get in London). The view from the window was amazing and when we went the weather wasn't even that great. It will be an amazing location when the sun is out or even if there is a bit of snow.

Richmond on Thames has been graced with a new restaurant.

In a lovely location on the river. I had Calamari rings to start which were lovely. The main was the best thing in my opinion Pork sourced from a local market. There is a choice of meat and fish in this format on the specials menu. As a dessert I had giant Marshmallows covered in chocolate sauce.

The wine was really nice here also!

The restaurant inside was rustic but beautiful. A great venue for any occasion.

Stumbled upon a Jackson & Rye establishment while exploring Richmond, one I've been meaning to try out in the original Soho location!

The menu for lunch is wide & varying and even incorporates a selection of eggs should you wish to partake in brunch instead.

We opt for a variety of foods, the 2-course set menu including the soup/ fish for one, Buttermilk chicken sandwich for myself, Buttermilk chicken for another and the pumpkin ravioli for Mum.

The pumpkin ravioli is swimming in butter, it does claim to come in a butter sauce but it's more akin to drowning in butter.  Tasty but very very very rich.  The soup and fish are met with approval although the buttermilk chicken is a little bland and a little too greasy.

The brioche bun makes the buttermilk chicken more like a chicken burger which had I realised I probably wouldn't have ordered.

All in all, an adequate lunch outing but not as great as I had expected given the hype surrounding the Soho location.

The Vibe

Brunch – the places all blur into one sometimes, like ‘gastropubs’ and ‘Prohibition bars’. To stand out from the crowd takes some doing these days when we all seem a little wary to be wowed. Jackson & Rye is set in a majestic building as close to the river as can be. There’s a stunning bar area that wouldn’t look out of place in Mayfair; cosy dark booths that invite you to stay for hours, and window tables that make you feel as though you’re a million miles away from the City. Take your date here on a Sunday and you’ll ride high on brownie points for the rest of the week.

The Order

There is zero chance you’ll struggle with this all-encompassing menu. You’re craving juices, coffee and eggs – you’ll get it. Want to splash out on pancakes, maple cured bacon and Bloody Marys? No problem. The mains merge helpfully into lunch and dinner options so regardless of the time of day you can easily go for three courses and a bottle of wine. Portions are large so either pace yourself a little, or use it for the morning after refuel.

The Game

Incorporate the river into this date because it’s an absolute winner and you really do feel a little as though you’re on some dreamy Cotswold staycation rather than 30 minutes from Waterloo. Have a drink at the bar to ramp up the date aspect, as it’s easy once you sit down to not move again. When led to your table, succumb and indulge whilst gazing out at the rowers, runners and Richmond people meandering up and down. If you’ve opted for a late lunch, make the most of the river by night and wander between the bridges that are both close by.

The Faults

You’re going to be full here – either work up an appetite, or embrace the indulgence.

We’ve been to Jackson + Rye on Wardour Street numerous times. The first, back in December 2013 when they first opened to sample their brunch menu. More recently was to pop in for a nightcap when a very silk tongued barman smooth talked Saff and I into spending nearly £100 on their vast array of whisky and rye (cue Don Mclean classic).

The genius behind Jackson + Rye and one of the reasons that we like it so much is their take and execution on American comfort eating. They haven’t modelled themselves on the classic US diner, all neon and kitsch and it’s not a stuffy high-end starched tableclothed restaurant either. Jackson + Rye is somewhere in the middle, a relaxed atmosphere, excellent and knowledgable service, proper sized US classics (with a UK skew) and very reasonably priced cocktails… Win, win, win and win!

The reason for our latest visit to Jackson + Rye was to check out their newest location on the banks of the Thames in Richmond. The decor is very similar to that in the Soho branch (click here for the review), just a little more refined. Maybe this is to compliment the restaurant’s beautiful setting, a mere 50 meters or so from the river. The staff are young but professional and eager to please, the dining area calm and relaxed, the stresses of our nightmare journey soon melted away, especially with the help of a couple of cocktails.

As I was driving I could only have one, so I opted for the very grown up and very bold Rye Manhattan, £8 – Rittenhouse Rye, Luxardo Maraschino, Martini Rosso and (best of all) a whisky soaked cherry! Saff knew she could have a couple of drinks so tried something new, first she knocked back an El Paso Sours £7.50 – Rittenhouse Rye, lemon and agave, described on the menu as indulgent and complex. Later, just to keep her awake (my conversation must have been less than riveting) she ordered a Black ‘n’ Rye £6.50 – more Rittenhouse Rye, Kahlua, coffee and sugar. This rocket-fuelled cocktail is their version of a classic Espresso Martini and it sure does its intended job.

Deciding what dish to pick is always a dilemma, there is almost too much choice. It can be so tempting to re-order our old favourites (Hot shrimp & grits £7.50 and Crispy buttermilk fried chicken £11.95) but there are so many untested items on the menu too. The thing is, Jackson + Rye offer an all day dining experience, which only adds to our indecision. So you want steak at 9am, that’s fine! Or you want bacon, sausage and eggs at 4.30pm, no problem! You could probably stick a pin in the menu and still come up trumps, so all our umming and ahing really shouldn’t have been an issue.

Finally we were ready to order. Saff had Roasted Sea Scallops £8.75 - chopped garden peas, chilli cream sauce, Old Bay seasoning and baby shoots. This was exactly as described, no surprise flavours, perfectly cooked plump little scallops with the fresh sweetness of the peas, you really can’t go wrong with this combo. I stuck to the seafood theme and ordered the Crispy Squid Rings £6.95 - chilli & herb crumb coating with chipotle mayonnaise. These deep-fried rings had a sneaky little chilli kick but the chipotle mayonnaise was more like a classic Thousand Island dressing.

Saff went all manly for her main course and chose Jackson + Rye‘s American take on the humble full English breakfast, The Farmer’s £8.50 – maple slab bacon, fried eggs, sausage patty, country-style potatoes, spring onion and grilled toast. She was beyond excited about the thick cuts of sticky sweet maple coated meat (it was sold out on our previous visit). She adores this slab bacon so much that she asked Jackson + Rye for the recipe and it formed the centre piece of last year’s Christmas dinner. The rest of the plate was just as good, two fried eggs (sunny side up), a juicy rectangular sausage patty (yes more pork) and crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle cubes of roasted potato.

I was a little more dainty with my main, my Shrimp Burger £11.95 wasn’t really what I expected. I naively thought that it would be peeled shrimp piled up in between the brioche held together by the guacamole, a bit like a prawn cocktail in a bun! In reality it was a patty formed of chopped shrimp sat on a thick slice of tomato and lettuce with a big dollop of the guacamole on top. A delicate and subtle flavour but a splash of hot sauce soon put a stop to that. It was definitely a healthy option (especially compared to Saff’s epic blowout brunch), this just gave be licence to go large on my dessert.

As soon as I read the words ‘Melting Chocolate Sundae’ £6.95, I knew I had to have it. In fact it had me at ‘melting’. This dessert had it all – a ball of chocolate covered milk ice cream, big chunks of chocolate brownie with a generous pot of hot butterscotch sauce that’s poured over the top, gently melting the ice cream beneath. How can you improve on this?

J+R really raise the bar when it comes to their desserts. They have obviously put in a lot of thought and aren’t afraid to steer away from the usual tried and tested puddings. Saff ordered the Toasted Marshmallows £6.75, served with blood orange sorbet and chocolate sauce. Two sizeable cubes of toasted sweet vanilla mallow complemented by the bitter sorbet – genius. Why isn’t marshmallow on more menus?

As Saff was finishing her Black ‘n’ Rye, I really fancied a coffee to perk me up and prepare me for the next leg of our journey (Hotel Du Vin, in Henley). I was just about to go down the latte route till I spotted the Hand Drip Coffee £2.75 for a big mug of the strong stuff. They change their specials daily (I had Java) you’re given a pot of hot water, the filter full of ground coffee beans and the cutest little bottle of chilled milk… And away you go!

As I said at the beginning, we always thoroughly enjoy our visits to Jackson + Rye and now we have the excuse to pop in any time we’re near Richmond, or Chiswick – there’s now one there too. Places like this make it harder for us to keep up with all the new restaurant openings.

1 Heron Square, Richmond, has seen many reincarnations over the years and the latest of these is Jackson + Rye. Already having an outlet in Chiswick the brand wanted to bring their take on American cuisine to a like-minded community and so No 1 has a new occupant. Overlooking the riverfront it is a beautiful spot for a restaurant and the buildings of Heron Square have featured heavily in many paintings of Richmond Bridge and its surrounds. I went to check out the new addition to our local restaurant scene with a friend on a Thursday night.
The décor reminds me of classic American movies with a long bar, barstools, leather banqueting and warm muted colours. We took a seat at the bar for a pre-dinner drink. With the vast array of rye whiskies on display behind the bar it dawned on me why it is called Jackson and RYE. The bartender's knowledge on the available whiskies was evident and we did try a few recommendations. We also tried a couple of cocktails. I particularly liked the Red Snapper and Boulevardier.
We took a quick glance through the wine list whilst sitting at the bar too. Minimum for a bottle of wine is around £16 and works its way up to the rather more expensive end of the market. There is a wide range of whiskies to cover all budgets but for me the real value for money are the cocktails ranging from £4.50-8.
When we had finished our drinks we were escorted to our table. Many times a new restaurant opens and the staff are not overly confident with the menu but our server was very knowledgeable and answered our many questions with ease. There are lots of the usual suspects on the menu but I was disappointed not to see any ribs. I chose shrimp and grits to start and my companion had the truffled mac'n'cheese. Our starters arrived quickly and looked appetising. I was intrigued to try the grits, they look like wet polenta but the texture is different. Whilst polenta disappears on the tongue the grits have more bite to them. I would definitely try them again. As for the mac'n'cheese it's not the most elegant dish but the taste more than made up for it, the truffle really coming through, another highly recommended dish. Service was quick and after our plates were cleared our mains soon arrived. We both chose the Rueben Sandwich - salt beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese served on caraway bread with a pickle. Our sides were sweet potato fries and regular fries (the sweet potato were very good). The sandwich is huge with plenty of filling and the meat generously sliced but I did think there was too much bread. A big thumbs-up overall though.
On to dessert and mine was the pecan pie with rye whiskey ice-cream. It was well-balanced with just the right amount of sweetness and crunch, again a convincing interpretation. Some of the other offerings on the dessert menu to try next time are the burnt vanilla marshmallows, potted cheesecake and the leaded shakes because there will be a next time for sure. If you would like to ease yourself in gently to American cuisine then there is a set menu available for lunch and early evenings on weekdays between 12-7pm. This comes in at £11.95 for two courses and £14.95 for three courses. I do think that the main menu is excellent value for money however and you know that the portions are going to be generous so why not indulge. We enjoyed our experience at Jackson + Rye and would recommend you go and try them for yourself. The service was friendly and efficient, the food was delicious and the whiskey and cocktail range is impressive. If you like authentic American cooking dished up in an inviting and stylish environment then this is the place for you. A taste of the good ol' U.S in ye olde U.K - happy dining y'all!

Very nice place to have brunch or a light lunch with friends. Atmosphere is very friendly but with classy touches. Food is amazing - if you're into salads try the chicken avocado one! Also, brownie points for the waiters, they're very helpful, nice and friendly. We were very surprised for that.

Lovely food, great servers. Especially since some our food came out wrong, the food was taken away and improved before we even had time to try it, eat it or look at it! Very tasty meal and well worth it for a special occasion.

Met a couple of friends for a catch up and dinner in #Richmond in a Saturday. It was a warm day and most people were outside. We just wanted a nice place to #eat. Came across the Jackson and Rye along the river by chance. Have to say I was glad that we did. First off the food was really good I can't speak for my friends but I had the burger with extra cheese. The burger was really well cooked served in a sesame seed bun. With chips and dip. On the side we had corndogs and popcorn chicken. We all enjoyed the food that was served with absolutely no complaints. The service was excellent all the staff members were very friendly and helpful. Our particular server ( I can't remember her name off the top of my head now) was extremely attentive without being too annoying. She had a great attitude and was very friendly and talkative. However if I was going to nitpick about something it would probably be them pushing their drinks too much. But otherwise fantastic service. The price was fair between three people the total coming to just over £78 just under £30 each and yes we did have a few drinks 😂. From a first time experience I would defiantly recommend it.

I’ve always thought that this little restaurant on the side of Richmond river is another fancy restaurant with average food but since I started going there from last year, every single thing I’ve had from starter to dessert and from beer to cocktail it’s extremely good and now I’m addicted to this lovely place. I love going to Richmond and so happy to find this great place just by the river. The Burgers are so delicious. Grilled chicken is amazing and now on my last trip I’ve just had one of the best breakfast. I don’t even like beans but these American style beans are so good. The cheesecakes on this place are simply the best and now I’m the fan of brownie with vanilla ice cream too 💯👌🏼

A real nice place to eat. Portions just right, and not too fussy. Its lovely that you can have a conversation, whilst eating. Waiting staff very attentive. We had the theatre menu but if you don't do wine, the other menu has the same meals, but with a starter instead.
