The Smoke Pit - Salisbury

We had planned on going for several days. My partner on the job had great things to say about the place. We went in with some apprehension. To our surprise, that was not necessary. While the lot looked full to capacity. We managed to get a spot and went in. There was ample seating and an extremely clean restaurant. The wait staff seated us quickly and was very polite. The food questions we had were quickly and happily answered by our waitress. Our meals came out hot and fresh. The portions are AMPLE. The flavors are HUGE!! The pricing was not abnormally inflated. We were very happy and had full bellies. Bring your appetite and leave your cares at the door. We will be returning shortly with friends and family.

Restaurant & parking: very accesible from either side of the road, and plenty of parking (25 spots) in the lot. The inside of the restaurant is one big open space, which is very convenient to see what table is open and available. Bathrooms were clean and bright. Food: I highly recommend that you under order, because the portions are HUGE! I put together a pick your own meat platter, and the portion of pulled pork could have easily fed 2/3 people. Now, the food is 100% worth every penny and wait. The collard greens are the absolute best tasting greens I have ever had. The Mac and cheese was creamy and served very hot. The smoked wing sauce are well worth the $10, and could honestly be a meal in itself. You could taste the seasoning on the smoked wings, unlike other places where you only taste the smoke. They were also crunchy, which I preferred. The pulled pork was very delicious, soft to continue to pull, tangy enough for a novice eastern NC BBQ eater, and the sauces provided at the table can really dress the pull pork. 100% would argue this is the best BBQ I have had in NC.

First time eating here and wasn't let down. Quick to be seated even though they were busy. Waitress was quick to the table, friendly and courteous. Our appetizers were out in less than five minutes, hot and delicious. The main meal choices are sound too good and unless you know exactly what you want you will take forever. Once ordered the food came quick, very fresh, hot and again delicious. I had the burnt ends, amazing and the potato salad is great and I'm not even a fan of potato salad. Outstanding time here and definitely will return.

Let start with the service…. My waiter was great! Her name was Megan and she made us feel like we were at home. She was very attentive and pleasant, she even spoke pig with my son. Lol. My 3 year old is a very picky eater and both times we have come here he has been pleased with his food (He ordered the Mac and cheese and pickles). As for my food it was everything I’ve been craving since my first visit here. The ribs were juicy and flavorful and the Mac and cheese was to die for. (I had to order 2 because it was so good). This was the first time I ordered the wings and I was pleasantly surprised by the sweet sauce. It has the right amount of sweet and tangy. When it comes to the sweet tea…. Tell you grandmother she has competition because it definitely tastes like a family secret passed down from generation to generation. I sampled the banana pudding and even though it was good it lacked that homemade texture and taste. Over all I was very satisfied.

Quick, friendly service. Brisket had great marbling and flavor and stayed super moist. The ribs had a great flavor and weren’t dripping in a sugary sauce, and I’ve only had better burnt ends at one place. Okra was crispy and fresh, Mac and cheese had just enough cheese, and the sweet potatoes were deelish!! Definitely will be back when I’m in the area for sure!

Update: Ate here for third time and as usual the food was spectacular. I went with Burnt Ends sandwich on Texas Toast. OUTSTANDING! I was undecided on my side and my serversaid get the hash brown casserole. This ain't the normal bland version. And I need to mention this. THIS PLACE DOES NOT SKIMP ON PORTIONS. At other places you get a thimble or a tiny ramekin for a side. Not here! Also got a Texas Twinkie. All I need to say is get this. The only complaint I can say is the stools at the bar are too high and not very comfortable. So I ate here for the first time back during the middle of the pandemic at the old location with a buddy. We got the frychos, assorted meats and sides and we ate standing in a city park eating from the back of our cars. It was fantastic but I thought it might be from being locked down for months and was just the first normal meal in months. So I met some buddies at the new location which by the way is a fantastic remodel. If you were ever in the old Winks (loved their homemade oatmeal creme cookies) you will be amazed what they have done. You definitely won't recognize it My buddy ordered fried pickles (not my fave) but the serving was massive and they were hot and tasty. I ordered the Stockyard sandwich (burnt ends, pork and a split sausage link) on Texas Toast. It ain't cheap but Ashley (our fine server in all respects) warned me it was massive. Comes with two sides. I went Deviled Egg potato salad and Texas pintos. I think I may have gotten the baked beans but they were both delicious. My two buddies raved about their food. Small beer list featuring some local New Sarum brews and a few domestics. They were out of the one cider on the menu. If I lived closer this place would be in the regular rotation at the top of said rotation.
