South Moon Bbq

I've been coming to South Moon for years, though less often since they closed the Montgomery location. The Chuck Norris is a sandwich with all the meats, and certainly one of my favorites. But, the ribs are incredible as well. The pork rinds nachos are a unique combination that works wonderfully together. Don't forget the nitro sauce. And yes, is hot.

We ordered the pulled pork sandwich ($6.95), brisket sandwich ($9.95), and Mac and cheese ($2.95). The brisket was really good and was not as fatty as some others I’ve had. The portions were good, but sauces were mediocre. They have a really good selection of alcoholic beverages and their customer service was great. The only let down was the Mac and Cheese. They didn’t have fried pickles due to supply issues, which is understandable, so we got the Mac and cheese instead. It didn’t taste like Mac and cheese at all. It was more of a warm pasta salad with penne pasta, oil, meet, onion chunks, bbq sauce, and other ingredients but not sure if there was cheese. I wish it was advertised as such.

I reviewed South Moon three years ago and gave it five stars. We did the 60 mile round trip today to see if it was just as awesome as it was in May 2019. It was not. The small entry was chained off with a huge sign “wait to be seated.” Like there was any other option. Very unwelcoming. The wait staff was pleasant enough, but if you’re going to be serving food with your bare hands, don’t have horrible chipped black nail polish. The beer selection was great if you like interesting beer (I do). But if you want a Miller High Life (dining companion does), forget it. It is Hinkley after all, not River North. The food was fine. The prices were reasonable. The arcade was the draw and it sucked. Machines need maintenance, prices are high, the place was disorganized, bottles of booze on the bar within grabbing distance on the way to the arcade. What are you thinking? All in all, not worth the trip.

Hidden gem! We came across this one day after visiting a wedding venue not to far and instantly fell in love. We were on the search for a restaurant that could hold a small wedding party for lunch. We had no idea this would be the place! This place not only has really darn good BBQ it also has a welcoming atmosphere. With all the neat toy collections and a arcade. We knew we had to have our wedding here. From the beginning Katie and her staff were super helpful and so friendly. Katie made the whole process of planning our wedding lunch so easy. She went above and beyond! (She even sent her husband out to get us a proper cake cutter the morning of our luncheon 🥰 ) The day of the wedding everyone including myself were blown away! It was the perfect day spent with family and friends. A week later and people are still talking about the food! Thank you south moon bbq. Josh and I will definitely be returning!
