A fabulous visit that brings to life Sheffield's industrial past. This was a dangerous and dirty job, with the grinders having a life expectancy of only 26 years. That the water wheel still works and all the machinery continues to turn beings the place to life. Well worth a visit. If this.review is useful please hit like

Nice little place to visit with a very pleasant informative lady on hand to answer questions. Bit of a mystery to find to start with the car but if you park on Westwood way then you can walk through the gate and by the side of the river straight to it.

This is a lovely place to visit, especially as it is free. A nice part of Sheffields heritage ehi h is being preserved. I took my little ones and they loved seeing the wbeel spinning and the grindstones turning.

Situated on Porter Brook in Whitely Woods, Shepherd Wheel is a historic watermill and part of the Sheffield heritage museums. Open and active only on weekends and Bank Holidays, the old building courtyard and wheel is fenced off from the path.

Lovely to wander in, warm yourself up and have a chat with the awesome guides that work there and know everything about the place!

Very interesting insight to the workings of a water wheel. Most informative staff. The tourist brochures we had no clear instructions on where to park, and nearly drove on. Ended up on a long walk to find the site - signage not good.

It's really interesting to see how things worked back in the days. All the volunteers are really nice too.

Small and out of the way. Well worth visiting if you’re in the area or like industrial heritage. Working water wheel, line shafts and belt drives. Appears to be virtually untouched since the Industrial Revolution.
