Poseidon Fish Bar

I ordered 2x large fish and chips, with sausages, mushy peas and gravy. I specifically asked the staff to wrap the fish separately so as to not allow them to stick together. When I got home, I unwrapped the package to find both fish in one wrapper and both literally soggy and stuck together. The batter was non existent as it was all congealed on the paper. The chips were also stone cold and the sausages also freezing cold and soggy. I literally live a 2 minute drive away, so the cold/soggyness of the food couldn’t even be attributed to the drive home. I phoned the shop to complain, only to be greeted with a very sarcastic response of “I’m sorry about that”. There was no offer to ask me to return to replace the soggy/cold meal or anything. I used to visit here regularly, atleast once a week. When you spend over £20 for 2x fish and chips for a takeaway, in what you presume to be a quality establishment, you expect a certain level of quality and service. Both of these have been a serious let down. I shall never visit here again and will instead take up recommendations to visit Two Steps Fish & Chips, on Sharrow Vale Road. I’ve got numerous friends and family in the Ecclesall area who are regulars there and who have never been disappointed by them. Note to management of Poseidon: Train your staff to listen to your customers. Customers shouldn’t be a chore to you, they are a gift. Without customers, you don’t have a business. Your aim should be to please your customers, not disappoint them. If you don’t look after your customers, someone else will. The reputation of your establishment is in your hands. Updated 3rd Sept ‘23: Visited here after a shocking experience at Mother Hubbards on London Road. Without prompting, the staff served the fish separately in a box (I assume this must be some retraining from management from previous feedback - well done there). Staff were super friendly and accommodating and made our meals exactly how we wanted. Once home and tasted…. It was superb!! I’ve changed my review rating for these guys accordingly.

Don’t usually leave reviews but felt compelled after seeing the low overall score of this chippy. Can’t vouch for the takeaway, but when I’ve eaten in, the fish and chips have been superb. I’d go as far as saying better than the original Woodseats branch. I’ve always struggled to find decent fish and chips outside of the fish and chips capital, Leeds (fellow Leeds folk will know what I’m talking about), but this easily stands up. It’s certainly not the cheapest in Sheffield but it is the best.

We only came here because it was the closest shop open in a Sunday. I think we've found our new favourite chippy! Certainly not a cheap shop, but you definitely get quality. We had three medium fish and two chips to serve three adults and it was more than enough. The medium fish felt rather large! Chips were lovely and fresh. We'll definitely be back!
