Visited Mad Hatters today for afternoon tea. After an initial confusion about the booking I had made, which was sorted out fairly quickly, the following experience was rather good. The decor is quirky and the venue is spotlessly clean, as is the bathroom. The staff are very accommodating and the service is good. They have an excellent selection of teas and the cakes, pastries and savouries are all delicious and freshly made to order that day. Presentation is excellent and the portion sizes are ample. The only two minus points are that the tables towards the door are a touch too close together and I felt that the cakes we wanted to take away should have been cleared from the table and boxed up for us in the kitchen, rather than the takeaway container being given to us to pack them ourselves. All in all a lovely afternoon out, highly recommended
They updated the menu recently and there's a lot of interesting variety in there and the prices are very reasonable. Big selection of options too. Friendly staff. Loo is on ground floor and there are no steps in or out but it is quite narrow and would be awkward if you're in a wheelchair. I also love the Alice in Wonderland theme which is in the names of the items in the menu too. A hidden gem since it is never packed and it should be.
Loved the decor. Friendly staff. Delicious cakes even though mine was green.
Lovely little gem tucked away in a side street. Remember to make a reservation or you are stuck sitting on the sidewalk especially on the weekend. Next time I'm going for afternoon tea.
If you are a fan of Alice in Wonderland then you will be delighted by the little trinkets, portraits and wall clock and with the right friends you will really be at the Mad Hatter's tea party.
I love this tea room! A very nice atmosphere and plenty of tasty teas and cakes. I also finally tried the jabberwocky ... it was an experience for sure :-)
Great food. Staff very friendly and we felt very comfortable. Everything was prepared quickly which was great considering we were there during the busy lunchtime period.
Had a wonderful brunch. The pancakes were lovely and soft, the sausages were fantastic (been a while since I've had great sausages) pouched eggs were on point and the service was just perfect. Very hard to find any faults with this place. :)
Took my daughter's here yesterday for lunch. They both devoured the £5 kids meal deal whilst I tucked into a Prawn and Marie rose mayonnaise sandwich, which was delish! Staff were very friendly and happy to chat to the girls. They can't wait to go back.
Lovely place, beautiful decor, great quality food and a good selection of teas, cakes and sandwiches to choose from.
I had to take away a star though because we were really disappointed with the staff. They didn't feel very welcoming, we were given no cutlery with our food, we had to get our own, no one asked how our meals were and they even rung up our bill abruptly.
I would love to visit again but only if the atmosphere was more welcoming and friendly.
Brilliant lunch yet again! Great service. Will be back soon
I can't understand why people who book afternoon tea at this venue phone up and cancel their booking 2 hours before they are due to arrive and give this venue a bad rating for not giving them their deposit back. When I have booked many afternoon teas at Mad haters and have always been told if you cancel your booking later than the day before you are due to arrive you will lose your deposit my wife and I visit the tea room at least 2 a week we find the staff very friendly Great food that is prepared and cooked in their own kitchen as are the gorgeous cakes my rate this tea room 5 star ++++
