If you're looking for a unique and historic dining experience, look no further than this pub/restaurant/hotel located in a stunning 600-year-old building. We had with my wife the special coronation lunch which was simply outstanding, with a delicious tomato soup to start, followed by a mouth-watering lamb shank, and a delectable dessert to round out the meal - all at a great price.
But the dining experience is not the only thing this establishment has to offer. We also had the pleasure of visiting one of the family rooms in the hotel, and it was lovely. The room was clean, modern, and comfortable, making for a perfect night's sleep.
Overall, I highly recommend this pub/restaurant/hotel. The combination of delicious food, historic ambiance, and comfortable lodging make it a must-visit for anyone in Stafford.
First visit today and what can I say.... AMAZING!
Food was cooked beautiful, steak was perfect!
Member of staff Aaron was friendly and welcoming! We shall be regulars!
Food was standard price but tasted epic!
Best Food we have had in a pub, restaurant quality ❤️😊
My friend and I needed some food so we called in there because it was closest to us. We were welcomed by a very pleasant bartender who served our drinks and talked us through the food ordering process and then led us through the pub to show us our seating options. We chose our food from a very varied menu and I have to say the food was incredible! I didn't know you could do such wonderful things to a baked potato! Massive compliments to the chef; it kept me going all day and I can't wait to go back for another. We were both really impressed and will be back.
Thorough enjoyed our one night stay and will stay here again. Only downside was a 20 minute wait for 2 poached eggs on toast. Very nice lady waiting on was apologetic, she was rushed off her feet. Maybe restrict breakfast to one room so staff aren't running around so much.
The staff were lovely, the room was very nice just some minor issues (loo seat loose, black mould on net curtains), bed was really comfy and it was quiet so I slept like a brick!
I will stay here definitely next time I go to the Gatehouse. I appreciated the discount on the food, which was also very nice.
Lovely pub with friendly staff. We all had a burger which was really nice with a slight char on them with topping that where just as good. It wasn't very expensive either so great value for money
We visited for our son in laws birthday with grandchildren and had a lovely time. The bar staff was brilliant really helpful and friendly. We all enjoyed our meals and puddings and the price was reasonable. Will definitely return visit!
Absolutely loved my stay here so much so I even forgot to take photo's. Wasn't sure after reviews I'd read but booked it anyway and was pleasantly surprised. Staff was lovely and gave me all the info I needed. Room 9 was soo cosy and you just sink in to the bed to the point you don't want to leave it. The large windows let lots of light in the room. Only used the indoor bar area once though from what I saw that was quite cosy too. The outdoor beer garden was peaceful and I liked the tunes they were playing - other reviews had said it was noisy so again I was surprised.
More importantly there is an adorable and friendly cat belonging to the manager, so if you're a cat person look out for her.
Negatives:
Creaky floor board in hallway makes you worry that you're waking people up whenever you leave the room but hopefully I did not.
Shower was hot but could do with an upgrade or to one with an actual shower head though wasn't an issue for me and there wasn't any mould like what other reviews had said.
Despite the above I would go back again
Comfiest bed EVER, shame it wouldn't fit in my bag 😒
Cosy room , very local to everything.
Would definitely stay again if in area .
Went for a quick drink the atmosphere was great friendly locals and staff . toilets smelt fresh and staff were cleaning when they were not busy showing pride.drinks were first class..
