They serve excellent meals. The beer is always good with real ale and at a good price.
The customers are all very friendly including myself.
The landlady is very good.

Came for Sunday lunch. Shocked at how good it was. I was initially slightly apprehensive about how many things were on the menu. Had the roast beef, one of the best roasts I've ever had out.
Good service, lovely atmosphere.
My only gripe was it would have been nice to have a couple more ales on tap,

Fantastic pub, with a brilliant location right in the heart of Abingdon.
Lots of ales on offer, dog friendly and a very good vibe.

Been here a couple of times to eat - food is very good - but stayed recently for my fantastic son and wonderful daughter-in-law's wedding. It's a brilliant venue for a smaller celebration - there was 40ish for the wedding ceremony & breakfast, then around 80ish for the evening party, and it was perfect! The room where the celebrations were held (must've been stables at one point - rustic and very well done, looked very picturesque) is attached to the main bar area, but separate - so there's plenty of space if you want to dip out for a while - there's even another room attached to the main room (minstrels gallery?) where the evening buffet was served- so it didn't disturb the revelry on the dance floor. Brilliant! (Not that I danced - too old, two left legs).
The accommodation rooms are all very well appointed and comfortable - but not easily accessible because of the age of the building - so, a lot of stairs. There's also another restaurant and bar area within the grounds opposite the function rooms - which is joined by a traditional cobbled courtyard (be careful in heels!). Within a two minute walk, there are also beautiful abbey ruins, which are perfect for photos - but so is the Crown & Thistle!
The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and hot! The staff were fantastic - nothing was too much trouble. They really made sure everything went smoothly.
All in all, a great place to stay, celebrate, eat, drink, and relax at. And, believe it or not - very reasonably priced.

Wow! Wow! Wow! The Team at the Crown and Thistle are amazing and it is no wonder they have such fantastic reviews. We booked two years in advance and they were really communicative throughout and so helpful leading up to the event. They are attentive, thorough and diligent - not to mention that the venue is gorgeous and we barely had to decorate as the Barn spoke for itself. One of the main reasons we chose the venue is the food as the food is amazing quality (we still have guests talking about how amazing the pizza was) as well as their rigour towards dietary requirements and allergies. Both myself and my new husband have a bunch of allergies/intolerances and not having to worry about the food for ourselves and our guests was such a relief. They were amazing about dropping off cake and decorations early, as well as coordinating our evening entertainment so well. They truly have a mix of weddings and celebrations that you will be well looked after - the one before ours was a pagan ceremony, followed by ours with Drag Bingo and a beautiful baby shower for a guest the next day. They have a fantastic team with a huge shoutout to Youenn who looked after us and answered all our questions over the last few months, and Gavin who was a superstar on the day to make sure everything went swimmingly. We can’t thank you enough for making our celebration so stress-free!

Elena our waitress was absolutely amazing. It was my mums birthday and not only was the food 1st class, the service we received was by far the best I have witnessed in a long while. Brilliant work ✅
The people were super friendly and made us feel very comfortable and at home. The only downside is that the room was very small, I don’t think this was helped by the large furniture. However for a nights stay it was good for the price we paid. Also only a 30 minute drive into Oxford where prices triple !

I held a wake here for my darling partner Calum who passed away recently. The room I hired was a function room called The Barn which is beautiful. A good size with so much ambiance. The fairy lights on the beams were gorgeous. Chris was fantastic. Very caring and attentive as were all the staff. The food was excellent. Home baked pizza cooked in the hotel’s pizza oven. This really is a gem of a place and I can’t thank Chris enough for his help and support. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much for making a difficult occasion go so well. The hotel too is lovely and full of character right in the heart of Abingdon. Belinda
Great place to stay the night after a long day of traveling. Keep in mind the parking is to the rear of the building, off Abbey Close, so you'll have to go around- It's a small car park. Centrally located in town too, easy to get to everything. Hospitality was wonderful and we were able to check in early. Dinner and breakfast were delicious, great place for just dinner! If you have a lot of luggage, recommend staying on the first floor if possible as there are a few smaller stairways to go through.
