Came to cornwall for the weekend and went here on Saturday for dinner for a anniversary meal with my husband. And WOW.... the meal was incredible, cocktails were amazing and the staff couldn't be more helpful and welcoming. Would 100% recommend this restaurant. When we go back we will definitely be returning.
Having lived in Truro for over three years, I really don't know why it has taken us so long to find Penrose Kitchen. But I am very glad did. We visited on a balmy Saturday evening, dined outside to the back drop of lily ponds, cows lowing, and bats flying. It's probably the most peaceful restaurant in which I've ever dined. The wine list is imaginative and includes a refreshing Hungarian sparkling which we took as an aperitif. The food is beautifully presented and tastes even better than it looks. My local plaice was a delight, but my husband's veal exceeded all expectations. And the owner and staff were very accommodating and took care to make us welcome. Do pay Penrose a visit, I am sure it won't disappoint.
An absolute gem, hidden away off the beaten track. You’ll never ‘just be passing’ so search them out and go there. It’s the law. A wonderful welcome, which morphed into wonderful service, and just superb food and cooking. This is not a cheap meal but you get what you pay for. £60 a head incl. service for a three course gourmet meal and a glass of wine. It was a lovely warm evening and we took the offer of a table on the deck overlooking the lily ponds. Could have spent the evening eating the just baked, warm homemade bread alone. And paid handsomely for it. Penrose Kitchen is one of those unique slightly quirky eateries that Cornwall does so well. Just fab.
Set in a lovely location, with plentiful lily ponds and a background of wild deer. Really enjoyed our evening here, the service was excellent. A great selection of cocktails, but they weren't quite as good as they sounded. And the cheese board has a really potent cheese that should be an optional item (put me off the other cheeses). But apart from that the food was fabulous and I will definitely be returning.
Fabulous food and surroundings. The Twice Baked Davidstow Cheddar Souffle is so good. Lobster nicely prepared, sweet and tender, and served with a garlic butter. Ben, Sam and the staff are doing an amazing job. Very friendly and great service.
Beautiful peaceful location. Say outside to eat and admire the gardens and famous lily ponds. The staff were SO helpful, as spots of rain came. The cheese soufflé was unbelievably good!
Such a lovely restaurant and garden venue tucked away in the countryside about 10 mins from Truro. Well worth a visit the chef is excellent as are the staff. Originally found this as a venue for a 90th birthday party so assume it can be reserved.
Great food. Good service. I had duck leg which was cooked to perfection. My partner had plaice which was well cooked, beautifully presented. Would recommend this restaurant.
Really special place. Our first meal out post lock-down and I cannot overstate how impressed we were with the entire experience. The service was outstanding and we felt so welcome from the moment we stepped through the door (greeted by the hostess, the waitress and the chef).
The atmosphere was so lovely and the decking out the back overlooks some beautiful landscaped ponds and fields. I can't remember the last time I visited a restaurant that was so peaceful and calming.
The food and drinks were exceptional, with local produce (in some cases very very local owing to the the allotment at the back of the restaurant) being the star of the show!
Not a bad thing to say. Thoroughly impressed. Thanks for a wonderful visit.
Amazing food, environment and staff. Definitely a place I'll go back. We had the scallops as a starter, and the red mullet (delicious) and the lobster as main dishes. Highly recommended.
