Run by the same family for as long as I can remember and has undergone a few face lifts over that time, I still refer to it as Dr. Hunger and my dad still calls it the BarBQ. I paid £13 for two large fish and chips with curry sauce and a can of lilt, which squeezes into good value for money cause the fish was huge and there was a mountain of chips. The family are always really friendly particularly the eldest guy who around Christmas was dishing out (and regularly sampling) free mulled wine. I've been here hundreds of times and never been disappointed, the menu is what you would expect but always steaming hot and delicious. Just misses out on 5 stars as there isn't a wow factor but they definitely beat out the other take-aways as you continue into the town centre.

This evening we drove up Ablewell Street and noticed Charlie was cooking. We turned around at the island and purchased fish and chips. Absolutely perfect, just as good as they were some time ago when Charlie and his daughter did most of the cooking. Easily the best fish and chips in Walsall when Charlie is cooking. Charlie can you please teach the other members of staff to cook like you; - exactly like you cook, no deviation! The food was perfect, lovely chunky tasty fish with perfect batter. Chips and curry sauce was good also. Hopefully the standards will remain high again.

Just collected 2 x large fish and chips and a pot of curry sauce . Fish cooked to perfection and a good portion of hot freshly cooked chips. Curry sauce added that extra bit of taste. All in all couldn't fault it. I go as far to say best fish in chips around

Been using Ablewell Chippy since I moved to Walsall over 16 years ago.. never had a bad meal or received poor customer service. Always amazing and always cooked well. This is seriously how a fish and chip shop should be. The prices are reasonable too. Well done ablewell :)

Fish cooked fresh on order with a thin crispy batter and large white flakes of perfection with well done traditional chips and a pot of real home made mushy peas... Perfect

Probably the best chippy in Walsall. Ordered haddock, which came in perfect crispy batter with no soggy batter internally, good fillet size too. Had normal size portion of chips, which are cooked to perfection. Wish I'd tried a small portion of chips as the portion sizes are generous. 5 ***** rating

Greatest chip shop ever. No other chip shop I have been to (and I have been to loads) comes close to how great the food tastes here. On top of that the staff are great, friendly people. Prices are a tiny bit steep but I can say with confidence that it's worth it.

Very friendly staff and manager, plus tasty food. As a vegan, I am not a regular chippy customer (except for chips every now and then) but here I had a veggie burger (without cheese) and chips and it was just what I needed after a long day's work!
