Brown's Clam Shanty

Went in for an advertised special - $22 for Chowder & Lobster Roll - this is a good deal knowing lobster prices are through the ceiling. I live close, but only have been once before. Nice walk-up ordering set up inside. A lot of chalkboards with menu selections. Many choices, along with craft beer & wine. The counter ordering was simple. (There was a short line, but they kept it moving) The cashier was the highlight - friendly, clear communication and thorough. A+ Service. My order was for takeout (rainy day pickup) - prepared in a very reasonable time period. The lobster roll was ample portion and fresh. One with butter, one with Mayo. Simple and good - no surprise seasoning or accoutrements. That’s usually a good thing. Chowder not as clean tasting as I hoped, but okay. Many local places buy a base product and doctor it. I feel like the potatoes in chowder was over cooked making it a little grainy. Ordered cheesy fries with bacon. Appreciated real cheese, but turned into a solid block. Hard to eat. Liquid cheese has its advantages. Still a positive experience. Again, good service was the standout here.

We're staying just down the street. at Moody Beach RV Campground. Within very short walking distance we found Brown's Clam Shanty on Route 1. What a gem of a place. The fried shrimp were tender and light. The French fries were crisp and wonderfully seasoned. Karen Audie's Double Swiss Mushroom Burger was juicy and delicious. The portions were perfect (okay.... too much food). Prices were refreshingly more than reasonable. We tipped when we ordered, and just had to tip again before leaving - the service was so pleasant and sincere. Watching the staff running in the parking lot to deliver orders, and still stopping to check on us while eating our takeout was very hospitable. I don't know if it was all family working today, but they certainly seemed like family.... 👍 Thank you for serving us so completely while your industry is struggling!

If I could give it zero stars I would. We ordered a fresh lobster roll, and it was very chewy. When we brought it to the owner's attention he said that is "fresh lobster". When we asked if it was cooked there , he said no and said that it came in a bag already cooked fromt the fish company. That is not fresh loster. We asked for our money back he said no, he said there is nothing wrong with his lobster, and thst is fresh lobster. When we talked to the server, we told her that we'll order something else. The owner stormed back to the table and asked rudely if we still have any issues. We said that we will write a review and he said " I don't care about you review" and cussed us, and said that there will be more customers tomorrow.

I ordered a cheeseburger well done and a side of fries. It came to 11.87 and when paying I asked the fella ringing me up if that was with the fries and he replied yes it was. I knew the fries were 1.50 extra and assumed I was charged for them. The burger came out with no fries and when I asked about it was brought a slip showing the guy forgot to put them down and if I wanted the fries still I had to go up and pay 1.97 for fries because the kid didnt put them in. The place was not busy and there is no reason for the cashiers screw up to be put on the customer! This was not the end of the world if it was taken care of but it cost any chance of my business in the future from the lack of customer respect I recieved. Response to owner: I did not in fact get any fries, your cashier DID NOT give me a receipt or read it back. I did however ask if fries were on the receipt when paying and told yes they were. This may not be a big deal to you as one customer will not cost you your summer but it will keep my family from spending money there!
