Come to Whitby regularly and chose here based on Tripadvisor reviews and a great looking website, ended up being so disappointed. Arrived at 8:00pm, right on time, even had the obligatory call that morning confirming we were still coming, I had booked weeks before. The house was crammed; it was obvious they has overbooked. We were shown into a back room for the ‘where are we going to sit them’ for pre-drinks. Waited 10 minutes for someone to come back to us and ordered 2 GnT’s. Waited a further 10 minutes for the drinks, and then had to ask for the menus. Finally got seated at 8:35pm. The table was cramped, didn’t have space to take my jacket off, the house was warm and noisy with the amount of customers. The parfait was OK, can’t really make a mess up getting a ramekin out of the fridge and toasting some bread. We both ordered the Beef Bourguignon, which is so highly regarded from earlier reviews. The meat was awful, really dry and tough. It had either not been cooked enough of left out to dry and put back in the sauce, certainly couldn’t eat it with just a fork, in fact couldn’t eat it at all. Needless to say we left early, I’d seen enough. I did complain and because we couldn’t stomach dessert had the wine of wine deducted from the bill. The ‘goodwill’ gesture was appreciated but we had booked this some time ago really looking forward to our Saturday evening so left really disappointed.

Lovely lovely lovely!!! Limited menu, but fantastic quality food. Delicious gin cocktails, solid wine list, cosy, intimate surroundings, and decent service. Loved it! Will be back next time we’re in Whitby 😘

Ambience in abundance. We had a fantastic meal, started of with a couple of gins that we have not tasted before, great variety to choose from. When we was seated in a cosy corner we ordered a a bottle of the house red. For starters we ordered the salmon mouse and fennel and the goats cheese, both tasted amazing. For the main we chose the beef bourguignon with vegetables and dauphinous which where a taste sensation. All this for around £80. Fantastic value so please try we loved it.

Small cosy restaurant with good food and service. Went for the specials on the board. House wine is decent.

The restaurant was beautiful I loved the gothic style it was so unique. The food was amazing! Everything was perfect. I didn’t know veg could actually taste that good. Good size starter, main was piping hot how I like it and dessert was gorgeous 😍

Visited with friends for our annual ‘around Christmas special meal’ and all four of us hugely enjoyed the food, the wine and the atmosphere. Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. All of the dishes were delicious, though we sadly couldn’t manage desserts. Would definitely recommend.

We ate at Mademoiselle's tonight for the first time. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful and the menu looked fab. We had cured salmon with creme fraiche to start which was faultless - the fish was fantastic quality plus the basil oil and creme fraiche worked nicely with the dish. We followed this with chicken supreme with pork stuffing, port sauce, dauphinoise potatoes, heritage carrots plus  creamed savoy cabbage and bacon and flat iron steak with hand cut chips and diane sauce. The meat in both dishes was of excellent quality and the chicken was cooked to perfection. The steak was advertised as rare - however it was actually served so rare that it was blue and because it wasn't properly rested after cooking, the blood puddle that it arrived in washed the majority of the Diane sauce away. This was a real shame as the chips were good and had the steak been cooked and rested properly, the dish would have been extremely tasty indeed. The potato dauphinoise were very nice but the heritage carrots were overcooked and flavourless. Our dessert of a pot au chocolat with orange crisp was pleasant, but the dish could have done with more crisps and a coulis to cut through the bitterness of the chocolate, which was quite harsh. When we asked for the bill, we had to wait for 20 minutes to settle up. We also had completely empty glasses by this point and because the front desk staff were too busy talking to regulars and our waitress had forgotten us, we had to ask again for the bill. Mademoiselle's is a stunning venue and there is a lot to like about the restaurant, but equally there is a lot that could be improved about their food offering. The ingredients were top notch but the menu promised much more than it delivered; as a couple who work in the leisure business ourselves, we feel that on a cold, quiet, low-season night in Whitby, it will take more than average food and service to tempt folk into your venue. We can't help but feel entirely underwhelmed by the whole experience which really saddened us: we chose to visit Mademoiselle's over The Star Inn The Harbour, which is a regular haunt of ours and has never let us down. As both venues are comparable in price, The Star will definitely keep our custom on our next visit to Whitby.

Saturday evening the restaurant was steadily busy but good service well timed, unfortunately a couple of the specials had sold out so opted for goats cheese starter followed by beef bourguignon both tasty and well cooked, husband had quinoa sweet potato risotto and chicken supreme again very tasty, wine reasonably priced. Only down side was position of table which was in front of serving dresser and waitress was constantly squeezing in occasionally knocking chair then apologising, we decided to pulled the table forward ourselves which rectified issue.

We visited this restaurant during a week long stay over the New Year after researching on Trip Adviser. Changing the number in our party and adjusting the time was done swiftly and without any issues even though the restaurant was closed at the time I called. The service and food was exceptional as was the atmosphere and ambiance. We chose 4 different meals and all were excellent. Beef bourguignon was suggested by the waitress for my hubby who wanted to devour everything on the menu! He was not disappointed. We chose the Olivier Coste Rose on recommendation also and this was one of the best rose's i have tasted ( and that's a few!) We just had to have all 3 courses as everything was so tempting. Just wish this restaurant was closer to our home! This deserves to have the #1 recommendation Trip Adviser!

We stayed in Whitby for a weekend break just before Christmas. We know Whitby quite well but hadn't come across this restaurant so booked at short notice and they squeezed us in to the bottom room which was cosy (usually used as their PDR I believe). Staff were excellent and food was well executed and presented and served in a timely manner - no complaints, we had 3 courses. Dessert was probably the highlight. My only comment would be that the menu was very safe, there was nothing that made you say 'ooo, that sounds interesting'. The veggie option was overly safe, mushroom stroganoff. The team in the kitchen are obviously very capable, I would certainly go back, but it would be nice to see some slightly more interesting dishes to choose from.

We were wandering around Whitby on New Year’s Eve and stumbled across this lovely wee place. What a find. Beautiful little courtyard and we sat outside. Very quirky. Can’t wait to return to try the food and maybe even book a stay in what looks like beautiful self catering accommodation. Owner was friendly and informative. 😃

We have been wanting to dine here for sometime so booked well in advance of our next stay in Whitby. We enjoyed the most fabulous french food in an eclectic and chic restaurant. The restaurant was full and had a lovely ambiance. The beef bourguignon was to die for along with the dauphinois potatoes. We ended our evening in the gin bar. This restaurant truly deserves its trip advisor ranking.

Visted on a weekend in December. Place is nicely quirky and a bit different. Nice vintage crockery and an eclectic mix of styles. Food was pretty good too

We spent Christmas in Whitby and had the pleasure of eating at Mademoiselles one evening, the food did not disappoint at all - it was superb and absolutely delicious, the staff were all friendly and did a brilliant job. We were also able to stay in the apartment above the bistro owned by Sue and Richard - it was absolutely superb, stunning and beautifully decorated and a few extra touches to give it that christmas feel - if you get the chance to stay there you won’t be disappointed! Thank you for a lovely week x
