My daughter and I arrived at Whitby very hungry, we happened upon Trenchers, it was exceedingly busy, but we waited, we were soon allocated seats, our orders were taken, the food arrived it was delicious, one thing that stood out for me was the extreme friendliness of the staff despite the restaurant being rammed to the rafters with customers, there was no panic by the staff and we as customers were allowed time to study the menu and not rushed to eat our meal. Well done Trenchers, I was impressed with your happy smiling staff.
Fantastic restaurant. Wonderful food. Karen our waitress was fabulous and so helpful, her recommendations were spot on. The best seafood meal I’ve had in ages.
Not sure what to say actually other than I turned up at 11:30am when it opened. It's absolutely rammed, the service is incredible and the fish and chips might actually be the best I've ever eaten. I would actually drive 1.5 hours from Leeds just to eat here again. Rock solid and clearly deserves the high praise.
Spectacular on every level, dare I say it might be a British institution.
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon (16/09/23) and luckily there was no queue to get seated. After reading all the reviews for this restaurant we decided to give it a go and were not disappointed.
I had scampi and chips which was absolutely lovely, flavoursome scampi (not sure how fresh it is as they get it from the factory they said but perhaps it’s freshly sent every day) and my partner had haddock and chips, the haddock was superb, flaky and nice batter.
Atmosphere good and the restaurant itself nicely laid out and nice deco. Highly recommend people coming here (yes there are loads of fish and chip places for people to try with different reviews) as we had a great experience!
Fantastic place. Got there on the stroke of 12pm and waited 5 minutes only for a table. The place was having.
Our waitresses looked after us brilliantly. Food was quick to come and was loved by all.
I had haddock and chips - regular size which was massive!
Best fish and chips in whitby.... and I've tried them all! Nice restaurant. Decent service. Good menu with the classics and then more modern options. Plenty of seats but often a queue.
Visited Trenchers having seen various recommendations. The restaurant itself has a nice classical feel to it and has plenty of seating. Service from staff is really good, nothing is too much trouble. Had large haddock and chips with bread cake a pot of tea. The fish is of excellent quality and taste and the chips were cooked to perfection. I had requested skin off the haddock which they are happy to do. The large haddock is £18.95, it is expensive but the quality is high and on a par with other fish restaurants in Whitby
It doesn't get any better than this for fish and chips. All the staff were so friendly that you can tell it's a nice place to work. The atmosphere and decor are just spot on. It's a pleasure to eat in a place that has invested its obvious success back into the business and there is a quality feel to everything, from the fully logo-written plates and dishes to the sparkling cutlery. It goes without saying that the food was excellent but things like that are always subjective. I was really pleased with my visit here and would definitely return on any trip back to Whitby!
I've been here on every visit to whitby, and it is a tradition we eat here at least once. Staff are always friendly, service always with a smile and good always excellent. Never dissapointed and always full when we come out.
It's nice to see it doing so well on the other side of covid. Portions are quite big, so I will definitely go small fish and chips next time. 😊
I really enjoyed the experience at this restaurant!
There was a queue outside when we got there, but the service was super efficient - the staff came out to check group sizes and handed out menus so we could read while waiting, it wasn't long before we got a table.
The ordering process was super simple, staff were courteous, polite and helpful. Food came quite quickly and it was delicious!
This restaurant really is a class of its own - great service and quality food.
One of many fish and chip eateries in Whitby but Trenchers came with many recommendations from friends and it didn't disappoint. Great location facing harbour, there was a queue but staff greeted us with menu and soon got us seated. Staff very friendly from start to finish. Good menu and main meals of fish and chips where available at small medium or large portions(we had 2 small cod and chips with add on of mushy peas plus 2 drinks for £34) Nice decor and ambiance.
Toilets upstairs but lifts available.
We didn’t have to queue as people had mentioned we might. The interior was nicer than we had expected and we were given a lively table. The fish and chips was the nicest I’ve ever had. The batter wasn’t dry and sickly like some places. The fish was soft. There were good portion sizes. Michelle was our waitress and she was amazing. She was friendly, helpful and so good at her job.
