The Mussel Shack

Great find in whistable, famous for its oysters and beer. We ordered plenty of oysters and they were all freshly shucked in front of your eyes. They taste fantastic and it proves to be great value. Other food like fish and chips were good and the fried oysters are also worth a go. The restaurant is next to the beach and it was a very relaxing place to be in. Would recommend highly.

Young staff doing a steady job. Just need a little more drive to turn over covers faster. We queued for 25 mins, and once inside 12 empty seats, we ordered and ate whilst watching empty tables not have covers not being filled and a large queue outside. Food was good, tried oysters for the first time, staff were informative on how to eat them, 1st staff member rather dismissive and told us to order drinks with our food (would have preferred drinks while we decided)2nd staff member great knew what we needed provided advice on how to enjoy oysters at their best. Would have had a 2nd drink with dinner but as we were told to order at the same time we didn't bother. Overall pleasant food, service OK.

Superbly good fish and chips, with an idyllic view of the sea in the background. Besides The Forge, this is the place to go in my honest opinion. Portions are good, and was delivered quickly after ordering! Made to order too! Only issue is that they're a little inconsistent in portion sizes - my partner got way more chips than I did, and we ordered the exact same dish. The tartare sauce could do with having a tad more zing, and the bread rolls are OK at best. Atmosphere was a little flat, but then again, the other customers were of a little ruder sort than us.

Came 2 times in a row! The BEST Oysters 🦪 in the area! Also wonderful staff, views, location, and seafood! If your not from the area be aware you need to pay for parking and it only takes cash (coins) City runs the parking and the restaurant has no control. The restaurant only takes cards so they can’t make change. We will be back!
