I've wanted to eat here for years, but never got round to it so my husband booked for our anniversary. It was so worth the wait. The service was some of the best I've experienced, so friendly and attentive and the food was amazing. I had black pudding to start and lamb for my main. My starter was huge, it would have done me as a main course, and delicious. But the lamb, oh my goodness. Cooked to perfection, it melted in my mouth and was so flavoursome. I can't wait to go back.

Me and my husband came to York for a few days this is our third visit to York so we wanted somewhere nice to eat and we came across this fabulous place. Amazing food and plenty of it too and amazing service Megan and Lawrence where the waiters and both were extremely attentive and just genuinely lovely people made our special meal very special. Megan gave us a complimentary glass of bubbly as we were celebrating our anniversary of 22 yrs. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Really wonderful little spot! Very friendly staff, and the food was delicious! The mushroom risotto and lamb shepherds pie were so awesome and savory! Prices reasonable. Don’t be put off by the fact it’s in a basement or that it doesn’t seem busy—it’s a real gem and the best food we’ve had in York!

Exceptional. The duck was cooked to perfection and the sauce was one of the best things I'd tasted in a long time. The set menu is excellent value. High end cuisine at moderate prices. The chef/a cook was friendly and came out to greet us. Wait staff were professional and attentive.

Ordered the 3 course menu fixed menu and it was a huuuuge amount of food! Also, the dishes were well presented and you could feel and see the care in each detail, although it was a fixed menu. Very taste and the staff was very friendly.

The meal, service and price hit the spot. My black pudding, pork escalope and sticky toffee pudding were all great. Sublime sauces were the standout in each course. Attentive and friendly waiters - did not disturb but came at the right moment. And the price - just under £45 for two. Really good. If I had one complaint, I would say the potatoes were overdone but it didn't detract from the whole experience. The restaurant wasn't busy when I went - which was a shame - more people should definitely go! I was very happy with my visit and would be more than happy to return next time I'm in York.

This is a very tucked away restaurant, run by a lovely lady and who I think is her husband the chef who came to chat to the remaining tables at the end of the evening. I thought this was a lovely touch! The food was delicious, reasonably well priced at around £19 a main. The care and consideration of the staff was superb! Lovely evening.

Fantastic food. Proper Yorkshire food with a twist. Delicious deserts the creme brulee was just the best end to a fantastic meal. The service was on point. Attentive not other enthusiastic and friendly. The owners show their love of the food the ambience and entertaining. Excellent setting down to the cook books on the shelf in the corner and the beautiful ladies powder room. Loved our experience here,it wasn't just a meal but an experience celebrating our anniversary. Definitely will come back with friends and family. Just wish they did wedding catering because the black pudding starter is definitely something I want for my wedding breakfast and I'm a vegetarian.
