Wonderful old but small pub. 3 floors with great character and historical value. Very good selection of hand pulled and keg beers . friendly staff with locals and tourists.
I come here frequently enough for work drinks, as it's our favourite place to come into town. It feels like a hidden gem, with it's quirky build and décor, and range of drinks. The music is always playing roulette on what genre it's going to play and my friends and I love it (though we got Rick Rolled twice in one night which was chaotic brilliance). The staff are always really lovely and happy to have a bit of banter with everyone.
There are games you can play, though the jukebox is my favourite feature as we love to make the music even more unhinged in its twists and turns in genres sometimes.
The only complaint I could possibly have is that the Lilly's Mango Cider isn't always on tap- it's clearly the best flavour of still cider.
Fantastic little bar with an amazing selection of Belgian beers. The LA Trappe on tap was delicious. Comfortable inside seating. Bar tender was friendly. Limited outside seating. Had a great time chatting with some folks next to me.
Lovely and unusual pub. Quirky even. Great selection of ales usually but not quite to our taste this time so we just had halfs. Even though we have been several times it can easily be missed. Second visit was to sample a lager and mine was a black one.
A great local pub. Reasonable prices and friendly staff. Nice and central in York. Good old fashioned building.
On this lovely narrow street in York you can find two epic places located literally opposite each other. Valhalla and Pivni are both worth visiting but we decided to seat outside, on the barrel table and order a nice tap wheat beer from Pivni. Very busy on Saturday evening but we enjoyed every single moment
Love this pub, it's quite small but has 3 floors so plenty of seating. There's a jukebox on the 2nd floor which is a reasonable value for money. It can get quite busy which makes ordering drinks at the bar take quite a while. My only negative would be that the speakers could be a bit louder
Okay update, ive came here again and yes the speakers are louder this time however we used the jukebox again and we had to wait an hour for any of our songs to come on which fair enough, we then looked at the queue on the app to find that only one of our 11 songs were on the list and after that was green day.. very confused about that. In frustration, we then put another £2 in the machine which we used to prioritise more songs, we then looked at the queue again to see that green day was coming on again after our few... Weird, we know its not because of priority.. an explanation would be appreciated please.
Drinks with a number of friends November 17th, 2022. Cozy bar with an excellent selection of beers and other drinks. Staff were knowledgeable with all the offerings and friendly. Seating available on second and third floors with some limited spots on the ground floor.
Excellent bar, loads of beer choices, great history
First stumbled across this place in 2019 and I come back every time I'm in York. Great choice of pilsner, ales and even whiskeys, great atmosphere in a wonderful historic building
