Nice restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere, had a reservation for afternoon tea, was there early so went and was seated with no problems.
Staff were polite and friendly, the place was busy but food was served quickly.
The afternoon tea was tasty and the price was reasonable so no problems, will try something else off the menu if in the area next time in York.

Enjoyed our breakfast here. The fruits pancake and French croissant were all good. It's fresh and tasted good. But the latte was just so so.

Delightful place with hints of Parisian cafe society, jazz playing in the background, French touches, signs and posters add to the atmosphere. It has great food, friendly helpful staff, an ideal place for a spot of afternoon tea or a quick nibble and a drink with your beloved, friends or family.

Friendly welcoming and attentive staff. Great afternoon tea for my 8yr olds 1st experience. The Snowman afternoon tea is lovely and a great theme for festive time of the year.

Lovely place to be in. Wonderful service crew. And importantly excellent food of flavour.

Whilst Café Rouge may not be the finest dining restaurant, the York one is set in such a nice location. The food is okay but the service and atmosphere is always excellent.

Visited here for afternoon tea. Had booked to reserve a table due to how busy York can be.
Had the £25.00 for two menus, afternoon tea.
There is a savoury toastie choice of either mushroom or ham filling with toasted cream cheese on top of it. I had the mushroom one which was delicious. The sweet choices were a plenty, with choice of cakes, scone with jam and cream and a rich chocolate mousse. The tea pot was adequate for two people but the tea was very weak, but still enjoyed the whole thing.
The staff were smiley, helpful and very pleasant.
Cafe Rouge has a nice atmosphere and if you sit in the window area you can see the tourists and shops outside.
Would visit again.

We visited this establishment for a special occasion and had acquired Groupon vouchers.
We had booked a table and were pleasantly surprised.
The food was cooked to perfection, adequate portions and seasoned beautifully.
All guests extremely pleased.
The service was a good level, in so much as the waiter was not too intrusive but was available when required.
The only reason you didnt get 5 stars was because the prices for alcohol spirits were extortionate. They purchase alcohol from similar outlets to other establishments in the area and choose to charge twice as much to their guests. No additional requirements to serve the drink as any other establishment!
Would i go to Cafe Rouge again? Yes for the food, but would not drink alcohol.

Overall pleasant, lovely waitress, we had the Christmas menu. I don't know why an extra £5 was charged for the steak meal. Literally a small steak, chips and sauce. Not a sniff of a tomato, onion ring or mushroom, very uninspiring. Not enough toast for amount of pâté and not enough crackers on cheese board. Having said that everything was cooked nicely and the house red wine was extremely nice.

Had a lovely evening meal in here on Sunday evening we were served by Samuel and he went above and beyond to help everyone in his section of the restaurant. The food was lovely and there was minimal waiting time. I had the Beef Bourguignon and my daughter had duck. Both meals were lovely, the meat was delicious and we would definitely call in again if in the area.

Lovely place with absolutely delicious food and friendly service! What stops me from giving five stars is the fact that pricing didn’t seem to be as transparent as one would expect. We asked for water and when it was clarified that yes it’s for the entire table we were given a large bottle of water at the cost of £4.25, as we later discovered children’s menu stated that there’ll be a complimentary carafe of water but we were not offered that option at all. Also, children’s menu starter Baguette slices & Crudités all were served in the same bowl and by the time they reached the table the baguette slices were unpleasantly soggy from the cucumber sticks. Other than that our food was really good and we were well looked after by your employee John. Thank you all!

Besides their food, the best thing about Cafe Rouge at 52 Low Petergate, is their street-front facade. Especially at night, when light and warmth shine through those great windows. One look and you want to be part of what’s going on inside. Sometimes, my husband and I get on to different meal schedules. This was one of those times. He was ready for a hearty meal and I didn’t want anything but coffee and a snack. His Boeuf Bourguignon was lovely. Tender meat and plenty of it. And just look at those fresh beans! You could probably find better Boeuf Bourguignon at a high-end restaurant, but for the price and ambiance, Cafe Rouge on Low Petergate can’t be beat. Yes, Cafe Rouge is a chain with a ton of locations, but that’s easy to forget at this spot. Epicurean Note: There is another dining room in the back that is cute and cozy.
