Cafe Rouge

Nice restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere, had a reservation for afternoon tea, was there early so went and was seated with no problems. Staff were polite and friendly, the place was busy but food was served quickly. The afternoon tea was tasty and the price was reasonable so no problems, will try something else off the menu if in the area next time in York.

Visited here for afternoon tea. Had booked to reserve a table due to how busy York can be. Had the £25.00 for two menus, afternoon tea. There is a savoury toastie choice of either mushroom or ham filling with toasted cream cheese on top of it. I had the mushroom one which was delicious. The sweet choices were a plenty, with choice of cakes, scone with jam and cream and a rich chocolate mousse. The tea pot was adequate for two people but the tea was very weak, but still enjoyed the whole thing. The staff were smiley, helpful and very pleasant. Cafe Rouge has a nice atmosphere and if you sit in the window area you can see the tourists and shops outside. Would visit again.

We visited this establishment for a special occasion and had acquired Groupon vouchers. We had booked a table and were pleasantly surprised. The food was cooked to perfection, adequate portions and seasoned beautifully. All guests extremely pleased. The service was a good level, in so much as the waiter was not too intrusive but was available when required. The only reason you didnt get 5 stars was because the prices for alcohol spirits were extortionate. They purchase alcohol from similar outlets to other establishments in the area and choose to charge twice as much to their guests. No additional requirements to serve the drink as any other establishment! Would i go to Cafe Rouge again? Yes for the food, but would not drink alcohol.
