Fantastic!! Rump was tasty, great Yorkshire pudding, peppercorn sauce gravy awesome. Tomahawk pork chop special was delicious, perfectly cooked. Chicken ham hock pie was really good. Great service, nice for families or for adults, great little niches for everyone!

Had a fantastic early evening meal of Fish and chips at this gem of a pub! Fillet fried to perfection and lovely chips with mushy pea side dish. Unlike most other pub/restaurants it was just the right portion abd done very well! Excellent choice of beers and spirits as well as traditional and contemporary seating areas. They also have a great looking room upstairs for functions, highly recommended overall!

I came here a month ago with my daughter & booked for the Sunday dinner last night as the menu has other stuff than a roast dinner & my daughter fancied something else. My daughter really fancied a burger but it wasn't on the Sunday menu - we asked if there was anyway they could do us a burger & the chef said they could! Our waitress was Eve & nothing was too much trouble for her. She was so lovely. The Sunday dinners & the cheese & bacon burger were all amazing - gorgeous thick cuts of meat & the roasties were the best we've had. The pub itself is gorgeous with lots of little snug rooms all cozy & lit up so pretty. This is my new favourite pub in York & we'll definitely eat here often when I come & visit my daughter. Huge complements to the chef & all the staff that make it a gorgeous pub to come into. Thankyou!👍😊

Super cosy pub and very tasty dinner. My only complaint is that you cannot tip by card, the staff must miss out on so many tips, which is a real shame ☹️

We visited while on a motorbike ride to York. The staff were friendly, the fact we were wearing bike leathers wasn't a problem. We ordered food, which was amazing!! There were really lovely, home made chips. The food was excellent value for money, and the service was outstanding. We sat upstairs and were initially the only people up there.

A traditional hostelry with an ancient, yet comfortable feeling, a convenient location for the city centre, York Minster and other city centre attraction and only 5 minutes walk from the market and main shopping area. There's a warm welcome, with a friendly smile. The prices were excellent and the lunchtime meal offer this week (just short of £8) included a beer, or soft drink. Wine was at a supplement. The meal was an excellent pub standard, and the host didn't bat an eyelid when we asked to change items on the standard menu (for health reasons new potatoes rather than chips, for taste reasons, cooked veg rather than peas). The puddings were excellent too (and spoilt our attempt at healthy eating - but worth it!). If you're looking for a pub for a lunchtime meal on a quick trip to York, with a pleasant ambiance, this is the place to be. It's good in the evenings too, with live music many nights of the week, and an equally hospitable atmosphere. I will certainly return.
