Tortugas

Chicago style pizza is a treat not everyone can pull off and you won't find at every pizza place. Despite it's name they are a delicious deep dish pizza. The crust was thin and crispy, the veggies weren't over cooked, the sauce a nice flavor. I would recommend a few recipe Tweeks. But worth the cook time. Met the family owners and they are so nice. This is a business that deserves your support you won't be disappointed and hope staffing shortages won't close it down

I’m originally from Illinois and we are known for deep dish pizza. Since moving here we have been on the search for great pizza that isn’t Pizza Hut or dominoes. We have found it! Loved the deep dish and the thin crust. We won’t go to any other pizza place again in Bham. We also tried the homemade pumpkin cheesecake and it was so yummy. Recommended by a nice man who frequents Tortugas on a regular basis. The staff are very friendly.

Tortugas is one of the best deep dishes you can find, not just in Birmingham, but anywhere. I've had Lou Malnati's and Gino's East and Giordano's (all Chicago-based deep dish eateries), and Tortugas holds their own against those titans. As an avid deep dish fan this is my go-to place in Birmingham for pizza. I usually get the Carne Special (photo) as a carry-out. As with all deep dish it takes 45-60 minutes from when you order to when it's ready. But I can guarantee you that it's WORTH it!!! We are so lucky to have such amazing deep dish here down south.

Best pizza in Birmingham hands down. The owner, Matt, is just a top notch person. I am originally from Chicago and I discovered his parents location in Hoover several years ago and was so excited when they opened a downtown location. I would crawl ten miles on pins and needles just to watch someone eat this pizza. Side note, the lasagna is on point too.
